Job summary

Triumph Consultants are seeking a Principal Accountant to support the Council’s financial management, including budget preparation and monitoring, final accounts and statutory returns. The contract is for 2 months in Warwickshire CV32 7NP, on-site.

The role requires CCAB qualified accounting with at least 3 years of post-qualification public sector experience or senior AAT/part-qualified CCAB, and strong knowledge of local government finance and regulations.

Qualifications

• CCAB qualified accountant with post-qualification public sector experience, or significant public sector experience with Senior AAT/part-qualified CCAB.
• Strong knowledge of local government finance, accounting codes, legislation and regulations.
• Confident using financial management systems and creating/managing complex spreadsheets.
• Experience working with senior officers, Members, external organisations and External Audit.
• Able to manage competing priorities, work independently and deliver accurate work to strict deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Lead the preparation, monitoring and reporting of Council budgets, ensuring statutory and financial requirements are met.
• Produce the annual Statement of Accounts and audit working papers within statutory deadlines.
• Provide senior financial advice to Members and officers, including financial implications of proposals.
• Support statutory returns, grant claims and specialist areas such as treasury/capital, revenue budgets, housing accounts, financial systems or projects.
• Help develop financial systems and processes, manage relevant staff and deputise for the Strategic Finance Manager when required.
