Job summary

SILA Linguists is recruiting freelance Bengali (Bangla) and Sylheti interpreters and translators to support clients in health, social care, legal and education settings across the UK. You will interpret Sylheti or Bengali and translate written material, with emphasis on confidentiality and impartiality.

Remote work by video or telephone is available, with on-site bookings possible. A DBS check may be required; DPSI or equivalent qualifications are advantageous.

Qualifications

• Excellent Bengali, Sylheti and English with register switching.
• Willingness to undergo DBS check for health/education work.
• Right to work in the UK for on-site assignments.
• Reliable internet, headset and quiet workspace for remote work.

Responsibilities

• Interpret in Sylheti or Bengali per client preference.
• Translate written material into standard Bengali.
• Maintain confidentiality and impartiality on assignments.
• Build glossaries for the sectors you work in.
• Deliver accurate translations by the agreed deadline.
• Work remotely by video or telephone, or on site.
• Produce transcripts and English translations of Bengali speech.
