Job summary

Jagex: The RuneScape Company is seeking a skilled Game Engine Engineer to strengthen RuneTek and related tooling. You will work across rendering, audio, input and file systems, delivering production-ready engine tech and optimising performance.

You will shape your specialism over time with mentorship, while collaborating with production and game development teams to realise Jagex's vision for its games. The role offers flexible, predominantly remote work from Cambridge, UK.

Qualifications

• Experience with modern C++ and GLSL/Python.
• Strong profiling of CPU/GPU/memory in live products.
• Experience with AAA threaded renderers using OpenGL/Vulkan.
• Comfortable maintaining C/C++ build systems; CMake preferred.
• Experience with test-driven development.
• Java is a bonus.

Responsibilities

• Enhance and maintain engine technology and libraries across rendering, audio, input, file systems, maths, and tooling.
• Research and develop new engine tech, delivering production-ready solutions.
• Write scalable, robust, and high-performance code meeting department standards.
• Deliver on projects of moderate scope with cross-team collaboration.
• Proactively improve game technology performance and processes.
• Develop expertise in graphics, networking, audio or animation with mentorship.
