Job summary

Buckinghamshire Council is seeking an Internal Auditor to join the Business Assurance team. The role offers a clear development pathway in internal audit, risk and governance within a large UK unitary authority. You’ll audit across services, review controls, and support improvement initiatives.

You’ll work with stakeholders, progress through career grades, and pursue relevant professional qualifications while contributing to high-quality assurance for the Council and external clients.

Qualifications

• Experience in auditing or assurance activities in a professional environment.
• Ability to plan, prioritise and deliver work to deadlines.
• Strong communication skills, including the ability to explain complex information clearly.
• Good analytical, numerical and problem-solving abilities.
• Awareness of governance, risk management and internal controls.

Responsibilities

• Deliver internal audit and assurance assignments in line with auditing standards.
• Review processes, systems and controls to identify risks and improvement opportunities.
• Conduct interviews and gather information with clients and stakeholders.
• Prepare evidence-based working papers and audit reports.
• Support development and delivery of audit plans and programmes.
• Assess compliance with policies, regulations and best practice.
• Provide practical recommendations to improve governance and performance.
