Job summary

Balfour Beatty is seeking an Assistant Quantity Surveyor to support the ASTI programme across the North East of Scotland. This role offers an opportunity to develop a career in commercial management on major infrastructure projects.

You will work with experienced surveyors and commercial managers, gaining hands-on exposure to project costs, invoicing, procurement and final accounts within a busy project team. A degree or equivalent qualification in QS or related discipline is preferred.

Qualifications

• Degree or working towards a Quantity Surveying/commercial degree or equivalent.
• Some experience in a commercial, construction, civil engineering or financial environment.
• Understanding of basic construction commercial principles.
• Strong numerical and analytical skills.
• Good attention to detail and organisation.
• Confident communication and ability to work in a multidisciplinary team.
• Proactive problem-solving and prioritisation in a busy project environment.

Responsibilities

• Support the commercial team with day-to-day project management and cost control.
• Assist with monthly cost and commercial reports.
• Assist with applications for payment and project invoicing.
• Monitor costs, budgets and cash flow forecasts.
• Assist with subcontractor procurement, payments and certification.
• Raise purchase orders and record project costs accurately.
• Support variations and additional costs documentation.
• Assist with project correspondence and highlight contractual issues.
• Support identification of overspends, risks and opportunities.
• Coordinate with clients, subcontractors and project team.
• Assist with final accounts close-out and contract requirements.
