Job summary

CarmichaelUK is seeking an experienced freelance Civils Estimator to join on an immediate basis. You will own estimates from enquiry through tender submission, pricing civil works up to around £3m using first-principles methods.

Fully remote working may be available for the right candidate. Key responsibilities include preparing tenders, performing take-offs for labour, plant, materials and subcontractors, negotiating quotations, reviewing drawings, and liaising with clients.

Qualifications

• A relevant civil engineering qualification (HNC/HND or degree).
• Experience estimating civil engineering or groundworks.
• Strong first-principles estimating and take-off capability.
• Practical knowledge of earthworks, drainage, concrete, roads and utilities.
• Strong commercial awareness with cost, risk and margin focus.
• Hands-on approach with ability to manage tenders independently.

Responsibilities

• Prepare estimates and tenders for civil engineering projects.
• Complete take-offs and first-principles pricing for labour, plant, materials and subcontractors.
• Obtain and negotiate supplier and subcontractor quotations.
• Review drawings, specifications and tender information to identify risks and opportunities.
• Apply practical knowledge of construction methods, productivity and plant requirements when pricing works.
• Liaise with clients and attend site visits where required.
• Support tender negotiations and provide clear handovers on successful projects.
