Job summary

CarmichaelUK is seeking an experienced civil engineering Estimator to own the tender process from enquiry through to handover, ensuring robust, competitive bids. The role requires first-principles estimating, take-offs, cash-flow forecasts and risk assessment.

You will liaise with clients, subcontractors and suppliers to maintain current market rates and submit clean, timely bids that reflect value engineering and environmental performance.

Qualifications

• First-principles estimating experience within civil engineering.
• HNC/HND/degree in Civil Engineering, Quantity Surveying, Construction Management or a related subject.
• Good understanding of NEC and JCT contracts.
• Strong tender writing skills.
• Competent with Excel and other Microsoft Office applications.
• Ability to manage multiple tenders and deadlines independently.
• Previous site or project delivery experience would be advantageous.
• Experience in waterways, flood defence, dredging, piling, marine or specialist civils would be highly beneficial.
• Knowledge of floating and land-based construction plant would be advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Take ownership of the tender process from enquiry to handover.
• Prepare first-principles estimates, take-offs, subcontract enquiries and cash-flow forecasts.
• Assess tender risk and identify opportunities to improve value, methodology and environmental performance.
• Collaborate with clients, subcontractors and suppliers to ensure competitive bids.
• Ensure bids are commercially robust and submitted on time.
• Work within NEC and JCT contract frameworks as required.
