Are you someone with a passion for cooking and the ability to create daily fresh and nutritional meals? Are you seeking a role where you have full responsibility for your kitchen and what you serve? If so, we have an excellent opportunity for a relief cook to join our state-of-the-art centre at William Quarrier's Epilepsy Centre.

Your New Organisation

The William Quarrier Scottish Epilepsy Centre is a modern facility equipped with world-class diagnostic technology, elevating epilepsy services in the UK. The centre offers a flexible, patient-centred residential assessment for adults aged 16 and over. Catering staff are vital team members who perform a range of duties professionally while being attentive to clinical patient services.

The cook's role is to provide nutritious meals for patients and staff on shift, adhering to individual dietary needs, NHS Food and Nutrition Standards, and healthy eating principles at all times.

This role requires someone confident in managing their own kitchen environment, responsible for menu planning and food orders. You will also need to order your own food deliveries, so budgeting skills are essential.

This is a relief role with hours dependent on service needs. The usual shift hours are from 10 am to 6 pm, covering weekdays and weekends.

What You Will Need to Bring to the Role
  • Compassion and kindness to support people daily.
  • Enthusiasm and self-motivation.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with a focus on positive outcomes.
  • Confident cooking skills, using fresh ingredients to prepare patient and staff lunches and dinners from scratch.
  • Food Hygiene experience, with willingness to undertake Intermediate Food Hygiene Certificate Training.
  • Knowledge of Health and Safety and infection control.
  • Awareness of Environmental Health Standards.
  • Good communication skills to interact professionally with patients and staff, including effective listening.
  • Menu planning experience, including reviewing menus for seasonality and working within a set budget.
  • Understanding and commitment to equal opportunities.
  • A commitment to continuous learning and self-development.
  • Supportive attitude towards staff through active participation in meetings.
  • Experience working with diverse individuals and groups.
  • Understanding of confidentiality and sensitivity practices when working with vulnerable groups.
