Job Description

Purpose of the role

The position is a client relationship management role in the International Corporate Bank (ICB). The banker will be responsible for delivering a broad range of Corporate and Investment Banking solutions to a diverse group of companies within the Insurance sector. The role requires the coverage of a portfolio of existing and prospect clients, building deep client relationships, providing excellent client service, generating business development ideas, and targeting new client acquisition. This includes managing a portfolio of lending exposures, with a focus on effective risk management and driving strong client returns, in line with Barclays' guidance.

The Insurance team covers mid to large cap clients across Life, General, Specialty, Reinsurance, Run-off, and Insurance Brokers. Success requires collaboration with coverage partners across geographies and time zones. The role demands an experienced Insurance banker capable of engaging with C-suite and senior Treasury decision-makers, as well as promoting ESG and Citizenship initiatives. The candidate should possess strong expertise in corporate finance, credit, and Corporate Banking products, along with transaction execution skills. Sector-specific knowledge, especially of Lloyd's of London, is highly valued.

As a Director, the role includes coaching, training, and developing junior team members, with leadership skills being essential for leading cross-disciplinary deal and client coverage teams.

Accountabilities
  • Manage a portfolio of complex client relationships, maximizing income and profitability through excellent service and trusted advisor status.
  • Expand the portfolio by increasing wallet share and acquiring new business, leading deal teams and collaborating across Barclays on projects like cash management, debt, trade finance, and FX.
  • Coordinate with regional and global partners on balance sheet commitments, credit, and loan syndications.
  • Identify and provide effective product solutions promptly and proactively.
  • Build recognition as a sector expert within and outside Barclays, developing a network of Key Business Introducers (KBIs) to target prospects.
  • Ensure risk is managed effectively, adhering to policies related to regulatory, operational, legal, financial crime, and credit risks.
  • Monitor performance using CRM systems, maintaining call reports, pipeline data, and client plans.
  • Share best practices within the Insurance franchise and Barclays group.
  • Contribute to Barclays' culture and community initiatives.
Director Expectations
  • Lead a business function, contributing to strategic initiatives, policy development, and managing complex projects.
  • Manage teams or act as a technical expert, coaching less experienced staff and influencing strategic decisions.
  • Advise senior management and committees, managing resourcing, budgeting, and policies.
  • Ensure compliance with policies and regulations, and monitor external environment influences.
  • Maintain industry knowledge and apply analytical skills to solve complex problems.
  • Make strategic decisions, influence stakeholders, and serve as a principal contact for key clients.
  • Represent the function externally as a spokesperson.

Qualifications/Skills
