Job summary

The Gambling Commission is seeking a highly organised administrator to support the Compliance Team in Birmingham. The role involves desk-based assessments of licensees and applicants, supporting enforcement activity, and handling confidential information with care.

You will contact external parties, manage case files, and help deliver regulatory processes to deadlines, while working in a collaborative, performance-driven environment. Hybrid role with 1 day on-site weekly.

Responsibilities

Job description

Location: Hybrid working – Birmingham office 1 day per week

Contract: Fixed-term contract for 12 months for a short-term project or piece of work

Hours: Full-time (37 hours per week)

Salary: £27,000 per annum

Grade: 9

The role:

To provide support to the regulatory teams responsible for compliance, enforcement and licensing functions of the GB Gambling regulator.

This role will include providing administrative support to the team with assessment, licence maintenance and enforcement activity.

The role will include conducting desktop reviews of key information received about individuals and businesses licensed by us and third parties linked to gambling activity or regulation.

The role will include contacting external parties via telephone, media conferencing technology and written communication.

You will need to be a highly organised individual with the ability to multitask and manage your own workload whilst working to deadlines. You will be able to quickly adapt and prioritise given the varied workload. You will need to have excellent communication skills, be a confident team player and have an eye for detail.

You will need to always safeguard confidentiality as you will have access to highly confidential and sensitive information. You will also be responsible for facilitating and supporting case teams in progressing multiple cases to the required standard and deadlines.

The team:

Working for our Compliance Team means translating regulation into action and making sure the industry understands and adheres to the legislation set out to protect the public’s interest. You will help lead the team responsible for measuring licensees against the requirements of holding a GB gambling licence, develop and contribute to raising standards initiatives, and work to ensure consumers are protected from gambling harm.

Your responsibilities:
  • Conducting assessment activities to ensure Licensees are compliant with the conditions of their licence.
  • Conducting assessment activities to ensure applicants are suitable to be licensed for gambling activities.
  • Providing support to colleagues conducting complex compliance activities.
  • Escalating matters of non-compliance/illegal activities with clear recommendations.
  • Reviewing data/intelligence to identify risk or non-compliance.
  • Gathering evidence and making enquiries around any illegal gambling activity.
  • Report writing to support decisions on regulatory/criminal cases.
  • Coordinating and assisting in the delivery of regulatory and criminal cases.
  • Preparing files for regulatory panels, criminal cases and Commissioner steers.
  • Recording information and activities within our case management systems to the required standard and deadlines.
  • Drafting and sending correspondence, reports and updates.
  • Acting as a first point of contact for licensees and external stakeholders.
  • Arranging and attending meetings and interviews, making notes and providing general support for internal or external meetings.
  • Safeguarding confidentiality at all times due to access to highly confidential and sensitive information.
  • Gaining and maintaining knowledge around our approach to regulation and having general knowledge of the Gambling Act 2005 and the licence Conditions and codes of practice applicable to our Licensees.
  • Gaining and maintaining knowledge around the Commission’s policies and procedures.
  • Holders of this role will be prohibited from participating in any National Lottery products or services.
