Hours 35 hours per week; hybrid working (2-3 days in the office per week)

This is a fantastic opportunity for a food regulatory policy professional to join the Regulatory and Science team at the Food and Drink Federation - the voice of the UK’s largest and most dynamic manufacturing sector. The team plays a vital role in helping FDF member companies and sector associations navigate regulatory developments, acting as a key link between the food industry and government departments and regulators on food safety and standards policy.

As Regulatory Affairs Executive, you’ll gain broad experience across a range of food policies, with a particular focus on food microbiology, organic foods, and novel foods.

Key responsibilities

  • Monitoring and analysis of scientific, regulatory and policy developments in defined food safety areas across GB, EU and Codex Alimentarius
  • Providing written summaries and verbal updates on regulatory and policy changes to FDF member companies, FDF sector associations and FDF colleagues
  • Managing relevant technical committees and groups including the preparation of agendas, papers and minutes and following up on actions
  • Engaging with FDF member companies to develop the FDF’s response to government consultations and assisting with the external representation of the FDF’s position
  • Working closely with FDF trade and sustainability teams, supply chain partners, trade associations, and European counterparts, including FoodDrinkEurope
  • Creating content for the FDF website including regulatory toolkits and policy briefings
  • Supporting and/or leading on individual policy areas and projects

Requirements

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent in food science or another relevant discipline
  • Experience in food industry, regulatory authority, trade association or similar organisation is desirable
  • Experience of scientific or regulatory policy development is desirable
  • Enthusiasm and aptitude to learn and ability to apply scientific and regulatory knowledge to areas outside direct experience
  • Strong analytical and communication skills, with a demonstrable ability to produce accurate written and verbal summaries of technical and regulatory information
  • Knowledge of UK and EU food law, particularly as it relates to food microbiology, organic foods and/or novel foods
  • Strong time management and organisational skills with the ability to work across a variety of different policy areas, managing multiple deadlines
  • Ability to build and maintain working relationships with FDF members and with key external stakeholders
