Job Title: Registered Veterinary Nurse (Anaesthesia Focus)

Location: London Vet Specialists

Hours: Full-Time (40-Hours/Week) - Part-Time Considered

Salary: £32,000-£37,000 DOE

London Vet Specialists is recruiting an enthusiastic Registered Veterinary Nurse with experience in anaesthesia to join our referral centre in Hammersmith, London. This role is ideal for a veterinary nurse with experience in a specialist anaesthesia team, though training will be provided.

London Vet Specialists started as a boutique small animal referral centre in Belsize Park and relocated in May 2024 to a state-of-the-art facility in Hammersmith, West London, on the Thames riverbank. Our hospital offers a range of specialist services including surgery, internal medicine, oncology, ophthalmology, anaesthesia, cardiology, dermatology, diagnostic imaging, neurology, orthopaedics, and emergency and critical care.

Role Overview

The Anaesthesia-Focused RVN will collaborate with the Head of Nursing Services, Lead Nurses, Clinical Director, and Clinicians to ensure high standards of patient care within the anaesthesia & analgesia service. Responsibilities include patient preparation, monitoring sedation and general anaesthesia, equipment maintenance, line placement, nursing care, surgical support, record keeping, and teamwork. You will work enthusiastically to maintain a positive and efficient work environment.

The role primarily focuses on anaesthesia & analgesia but may involve assisting in other areas as needed. Our team emphasizes nurse-led anaesthesia with strong practical training supported by diplomate anaesthetists.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide high-quality patient care within the anaesthesia & analgesia service.
  • Demonstrate excellent nursing skills, hygiene standards, and infection control.
  • Ensure patient comfort and safety during investigations and surgery.
  • Perform practical techniques such as arterial and central line placements (training provided).
  • Assist with advanced analgesia techniques under supervision.
  • Monitor and care for patients recovering from anaesthesia in our recovery ward.
  • Maintain accurate records, especially in SmartFlow.
  • Assist with stock management and coordinate with pharmacy and purchasing.
  • Collaborate with the Lead Nurses and HoNS on case planning and issue resolution.
  • Participate in team meetings, incident reviews, and hospital committees.
  • Support hospital standards for cat- and dog-friendly practices.
  • Maintain competence across all nursing areas and participate in role swaps if appropriate.
