Job summary

Fairfield House Veterinary Surgery is seeking a dedicated Registered Veterinary Nurse to join our busy mixed practice team. You will support vets, perform clinical and laboratory tasks, and ensure high standards of animal welfare in a friendly, supportive environment.

Key responsibilities include assisting in consultations and surgeries, administering treatments and vaccinations, monitoring anaesthesia, maintaining medical records, and providing client guidance on animal health and welfare.

Qualifications

• Recognised veterinary nursing qualification with RCVS registration.
• Experience with clinical procedures and animal handling.
• Strong organisational skills and meticulous record keeping.
• Compassionate approach and clear client communication.
• Able to work independently and as part of a team.

Responsibilities

• Assist vets during consultations, surgeries and procedures.
• Administer treatments, medications and vaccinations.
• Monitor anaesthetic and post-operative recovery.
• Maintain accurate medical records and patient files.
• Provide pre- and post-operative animal care including wound management.
• Perform laboratory tests and diagnostic procedures.
• Explain treatment plans and advise clients on animal health.
• Ensure cleanliness and organisation of clinical areas.
• Assist with inventory, stock control and ordering supplies.
• Uphold health and safety standards; rota-based out-of-hours may apply.

Responsibilities

• Assisting vets during consultations, surgeries, and procedures with clinical support.
• Administering treatments, medications, and vaccinations as prescribed.
• Monitoring anaesthetic and post-operative recovery of patients.
• Maintaining accurate medical records and updating patient files diligently.
• Providing pre- and post-operative care to animals, including wound management and nutritional advice.
• Performing laboratory tests such as blood work and other diagnostic procedures.
• Supporting client communication by explaining treatment plans and providing advice on animal health and welfare.
• Ensuring the cleanliness and organisation of clinical areas, including kennels, treatment rooms, and laboratory spaces.
• Assisting with inventory management, stock control, and ordering supplies as needed.
• Upholding health and safety standards within the practice at all times.
• Potential out of hours cover as part of a rota - to be discussed

Requirements

• Recognised veterinary nursing qualification (e.g., RCVS registration or equivalent).
• Proven veterinary experience with a strong understanding of clinical procedures and animal handling.
• Excellent organisational skills with attention to detail in record keeping.
• Compassionate approach with excellent communication skills for liaising with clients and team members.
• Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
