Job summary

Brightshores Health System in Southampton is seeking a Registered Practical Nurse to join the Emergency department on a part-time basis.

The RPN will work with an inter-disciplinary team to deliver patient-centered care within their scope of practice, using CTAS-informed triage and rapid assessment. Strong assessment, communication, and teamwork are essential to succeed in this high-volume environment.

Qualifications

• Ontario College of Nurses registration is required.
• Current BCLS certification is required.
• Two years of recent acute care nursing experience.
• Knowledge of CTAS and triage principles.
• Physical Assessment Course or equivalent.
• CCU 1 certification or willingness to obtain within six months.
• CPI Code White certification or willingness to obtain.
• Ability to work at full scope of practice and in fast-paced environments.
• Demonstrated competence in ECG, arrhythmia interpretation, IV therapy, CVAD care, wound care, catheterization, and suture removal.
• Experience with POCT, CBGM, urine testing, and lab specimen processing.
• Power chart and order entry proficiency.
• Excellent organizational and communication skills.
• Commitment to continuing education and professional development.
• Adherence to Brightshores’ safety and care standards.

WAGE RATE: $37.071 - $38.157

Reporting to the Manager, the Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) works collaboratively in an inter-disciplinary team to provide patient care within their professional scope of practice while working in the Emergency department.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required:

• Ontario College of Nurses registration
• Current certification in or willingness to obtain:
  • BCLS
• Two (2) years recent acute care nursing experience
• Current understanding of the Canadian Triage and Acuity Scales (CTAS)
• Physical Assessment Course or equivalent
• CCU 1 or willingness to obtain in six (6) months
• Code White (CPI certification) or willingness to obtain
• Ability to work at full scope of practice as defined by the Emergency Program, ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team in a fast-paced and ever-changing environment
• Demonstrated Competence in the performance of the following skills: ECG, arrhythmia interpretation, IV therapy (including maintenance, IV starts and medication administration), care and maintenance of CVADs, splinting, oral, IM, sc medication administration, wound care, urinary catheterization, suture/staple removal, measuring for crutches, application of orthopedic immobilization devices
• Experience with POCT, CBGM, urine testing and urine pregnancy testing, blood collection and lab specimen processing for transport
• Power chart and order entry
