Job summary

Rochester Regional Health seeks an experienced Registered Nurse for the Medical Short-Stay Unit (MSU) at Rochester General Hospital. The MSU is a fast-paced 38-bed unit focusing on rapid throughput, telemetry, and coordinated care with on-unit providers and social work support.

The RN will provide patient-centered clinical care and contribute to high-quality outcomes. The role requires NYS RN licensure, a nursing diploma/AS, and BLS; a BSN is preferred with 6 months RN experience.

SUMMARY:

As a Registered Nurse (RN), you're the engine and the heart of patient care at Rochester Regional Health. You make a positivedifference every single day in the lives of our patients, their family members and visitors - going above and beyond to meettheir needs with courtesy, kindness, respect and compassion.The Medical Short-Stay Unit (MSU) at Rochester General Hospital is a 38-bed, fast-paced medical-surgical unit specializing in caring for patients with an anticipated stay of five days or less. Split between two wings (4100 and 4200), the unit features telemetry monitoring, negative pressure rooms, and a collaborative care model with on-unit providers, dedicated social work support, and strong nurse leadership. MSU focuses on rapid throughput, high discharge volume, and seamless coordination with the Emergency
Department.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Provides high-quality, patient-centered, clinical care
• Performs initial and ongoing assessment of the patient, utilizing appropriate data (i.e. physical, psychological, educational and risk-screen data appropriate for the chronological /developmental age of the patient).
• Communicates and documents assessment of patient with the interdisciplinary team.
• Utilizes all available resources in order to meet the needs of the patient and family.
• Develops and documents plan of care, treatment and services which is individualized and appropriate for the patient needs, strengths, limitations and goals.
• Complies with organizational policies, procedures and protocols including policies governing safety, medication administration and documentation.
• Revises plan of care based on ongoing evaluations and updates documentation appropriately.
• Completes at least one clinical research utilization (CRU) form for submission to Nursing Research Department utilizing a research article from the
  last 5 years from research performed in the United States.

COMPLIANCE:

• Completes a minimum of 5 nationally approved contact hours (CNE or CEU) per year.
• Completes mandatory in-services and health screens in timely manner.
• Maintains Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Diploma or Associate's Degree in Nursing
• Registered Nurse license in New York State
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor's Degree in Nursing preferred.
• At least 6 months RN experience preferred

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Moderate - Clinical - Moderate clinical roles are patient facing roles that require continual movement, including standing, walking, and lifting 20-50 lbs., along with pushing and pulling medical equipment and assisting with patient positioning.
• Employees perform frequent bending, twisting, and reaching while completing fine motor tasks in busy or confined clinical environments.
• High sensory acuity is essential for monitoring patient status and responding to alarms or safety concerns.
• Emotional and cognitive demands are substantial, involving decision-making under pressure, responding to emergencies, and maintaining sustained focus.
• Environmental exposures include infectious agents, bodily fluids, chemicals, and radiation.
• TB testing, mask-fit testing, and physical exams are common requirements.

PAY RANGE: $38.66 - $51.91
