Job overview

We are seeking an experienced individual to join our WGH service as part of the Pre-Operative Assessment team. This fixed-term role covers a secondment and requires prior POA experience.

You will be part of a proactive team ensuring efficient theatre capacity utilization and positive patient experiences for elective surgery.

Ideal candidates will be organized, have excellent communication skills, and understand the risks associated with anesthesia and surgery, including co-morbidities.

Main duties of the job

Conduct holistic pre-operative assessments, manage complex co-morbidities, promote health, optimize patient condition, perform physical examinations, and work independently.

Collaborate with surgical clinicians, anesthetists, GPs, and other specialists to ensure patients are fit, ready, and scheduled at appropriate sites and times.

Person specification

• Degree level education or working towards it
• Monitoring/Assessing qualification or Teaching qualification/Trainer’s Certificate
• Proficient in IT skills (Word, Excel)
• Recent clinical POA experience
• Ability to lead clinically and work autonomously
• Physical assessment skills and basic ECG knowledge
• People management and change management skills
• Excellent verbal and written communication
• Self-motivated, enthusiastic, flexible
• Experience in health promotion and understanding of R&T pathways
