Job description

Registered Manager – Brand-New Children's Home, Hartlepool

£50,000 – £57,000 + £45 per on-call night | Monday to Friday, 9–5 | Some hybrid working

Most Registered Manager jobs give you a home that someone else built. This one lets you build it.

Changing Futures North East is a children's charity with more than 20 years in children's services across the Tees Valley. They are opening a brand-new children's residential home in Hartlepool and want the right person to lead it from day one.

There's no inherited culture, no tired systems and no Ofsted actions to clear up. You'll help register the home, hand-pick your team and set the standard yourself.

Why this role is different

  • A blank page, not a handover. You'll shape the culture, the team and the way things are done from the very first day.
  • Office hours in residential care: Monday to Friday, 9 to 5, with some hybrid working. There's a shared on-call rota at £45 a night, but not a rota that runs your life.
  • Therapeutic support on your doorstep. The charity already employs counsellors, mental health practitioners and trauma-informed trainers, and you'll have regular reflective supervision and access to their in-house wellbeing service.
  • A charity, not a chain. There are no shareholders, and everything is about children's outcomes and the people who care for them.
  • Ready for your first home? Experienced Registered Managers and strong Deputy Managers ready to step up are both welcome. If you hold Level 4, your Level 5 Diploma is fully funded.

The home

The home will care for boys and girls aged 10 up to their 18th birthday who have emotional and behavioural difficulties (EBD). It's designed as a nurturing place where young people can feel safe and build brighter futures.

What you’ll do

  • Lead the home's Ofsted registration and get it ready for inspection
  • Recruit, develop and inspire a brand-new staff team
  • Build a therapeutic, child-centred culture from the start
  • Keep care planning and safeguarding to a high standard
  • Manage budgets, premises, resources and recording systems
  • Build strong relationships with local authorities, professionals, families and the community

What you’ll bring

  • Level 5 Diploma in Leadership & Management for Residential Childcare, or a social work qualification plus a management qualification. If you’re working towards it, Level 4 holders will be fully funded to finish.
  • At least 2 years’ experience in children's residential care within the last 5 years, including at least 1 year supervising or managing staff
  • Sound knowledge of the Children’s Homes Regulations and Quality Standards, the SCCIF and childcare law
  • Experience of supervision, appraisals, budgets and online recording systems
  • A real belief that residential care can be a positive option for children

What’s in it for you

  • £50,000 – £57,000 salary, plus £45 for each night on call
  • 31 to 32 days’ holiday, plus your birthday off and half a day for Christmas shopping
  • 5% employer pension and death in service benefit
  • Health cashback plan and Employee Assistance Programme
  • Enhanced maternity, paternity, adoption and sick pay
  • Reflective supervision, training and real career development
  • Employee discount and Cycle to Work schemes
