Job summary

AXA UK is seeking a Regional Underwriting Manager to lead underwriting excellence across the North region. You will guide senior broker and client discussions, shape strategy, and drive growth through high-stakes deals and tenders.

You'll work with regional directors to set underwriting standards, monitor performance, and mentor teams to meet financial targets while collaborating with risk, pricing, and governance functions.

Qualifications

• Depth of underwriting across commercial classes and trade sectors.
• Proven ability to lead, motivate, and influence senior technical teams within a matrix structure.
• Extensive knowledge of the insurance market, especially commercial lines, and broker relationships.
• Strong communication and decisive, data-driven decision making.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the senior technical expert and authority holder within AXA Commercial regional business.
• Oversee the regional referral process to ensure delivery of financial targets, including GWP retention and pricing strength.
• Contribute to setting and delivering the technical underwriting plan and regional targets.
• Shape underwriting philosophy and strategy through collaboration with leadership.
• Use MI analysis to identify opportunities to reduce referrals and support training.
• Lead technical decision-making for tenders and deals to meet profitability objectives.
• Set and monitor underwriting standards and oversee training and quality controls across the region.
• Support audit and governance processes and drive continuous improvement.
