Job summary

The Ministry of Justice is seeking a region-based Head of Programmes to oversee Accredited Programmes, Structured Interventions and Senior Attendance Centres for people on probation. You will lead a dispersed team, allocate resources, and partner with agencies to ensure safe, effective delivery.

You will ensure programme manuals, audits, and performance targets are met, while promoting continuous improvement and diversity across services. Strong leadership and regional coordination are essential.

Qualifications

• Understanding of the key principles of programmes.
• Substantial experience working in offender risk assessment and management.
• Understanding of the Probation Service's role within the Criminal Justice System.
• Evidence of ability to evaluate practice.
• Experience of working under pressure and meeting demanding deadlines.
• Proficient IT skills with ability to interpret performance reports.
• Commitment to diversity and inclusiveness.

Responsibilities

• Provide effective line management to a diverse team and manage risk.
• Ensure interventions are delivered in line with programme management manuals and audit standards.
• Oversee resource use, staff rotas, and contingency planning for continuity of delivery.
• Ensure fully trained Programme Facilitators attend required training.
• Promote Accredited Programmes, Structured Interventions and SAC for clear access to information by Judiciary and Probation Practitioners.
• Maintain quality standards and monitor compliance with audit standards, addressing performance issues.
• Prepare an annual team plan and allocate resources to respond to public protection duties.
• Lead change and develop new services within available resources.
• Manage financial resources in accordance with regulations and support the Head of Programmes.
