Job summary

Orchard Healthcare Group in the Midlands is seeking an accomplished Regional Operations Manager to lead multiple care homes, develop leaders and raise quality and occupancy.

You will coach Home Managers, monitor safety, regulatory compliance and financial performance, while traveling regularly to visit sites and respond to on-call needs. This is a high-impact, autonomous leadership role with backing from a supportive leadership team.

Qualifications

• Proven multi-site operational leadership in the care home sector.
• Current registration as an RGN or RMN is preferred; supports clinical leadership.
• Strong knowledge of CQC requirements, safeguarding and quality improvement.
• Evidence of improving care quality, occupancy and financial performance across multiple services.
• The confidence to make sound decisions and provide calm leadership under pressure.
• Strong commercial judgement and budget management with data-driven actions.

Responsibilities

• Lead regional business reviews and translate data into actions for each home.
• Develop Home Managers and strengthen quality and culture across the portfolio.
• Oversee occupancy, revenue, profitability and cost targets.
• Manage estates, safety, business continuity and regulatory actions.
• Provide on-call support on a rota, including weekends and holidays.

Regional Operations Manager

Location: Midlands

Salary: £70,000 per annum

Multi-site leadership | Regular regional travel | On-call rota

The opportunity

We are looking for an accomplished senior care leader who wants the scope to shape performance across a diverse regional portfolio. You will lead and develop Home Managers, strengthen quality and culture, improve occupancy and financial performance, and ensure residents receive the care we would want for our own families. This is an opportunity to influence at scale, with the authority and support to deliver meaningful, lasting improvement.

Your portfolio will include dementia nursing, dementia residential, general nursing and mental health services. That breadth makes this a varied and influential role for a leader who enjoys adapting their approach, sharing good practice and improving outcomes across services with different clinical and operational needs.

You will have genuine autonomy to shape regional priorities, make decisions and intervene where standards or performance need to improve. With the backing of the wider leadership team, you will be trusted to challenge constructively, support Home Managers and act at pace. Success will come from being present in homes, building capable leaders and maintaining a clear grip on people, quality, performance and estates priorities.

What You Will Own

People and lead

• Set clear expectations for Home Managers and hold regular, purposeful performance conversations.
• Coach leaders to build engaged, accountable teams with stronger retention and reduced agency reliance.
• Strengthen succession planning and support the recruitment and onboarding of Home Managers and senior colleagues.
• Work confidently with HR colleagues on employee relations, workforce risks and positive workplace culture.

Quality And Resident Experience

• Maintain a clear regional view of quality, safeguarding, complaints, incidents, audits and regulatory action plans.
• Act early when standards slip, ensuring improvement plans have clear ownership, pace and evidence of sustained progress.
• Work with Quality colleagues to support positive inspection outcomes and embed learning across homes.
• Keep residents and families at the centre of operational decisions.

Performance and growth

• Lead regional business reviews and convert data into focused actions for each home.
• Deliver against agreed occupancy, revenue, profitability and cost targets.
• Support Home Managers to improve enquiry conversion, reputation and local relationships.
• Build effective partnerships with commissioners, local authorities and other stakeholders.

Estates and operational grip

• Maintain oversight of material estates, health and safety and business continuity risks.
• Ensure actions are prioritised, escalated and followed through to completion.
• Provide on-call support on a rota basis, including weekends and bank holidays.

What You Will Bring

• Proven multi-site operational leadership in the care home sector, for example as a Regional Operations Manager, Regional Director or Area Manager.
• Current registration as an RGN or RMN is preferred. This will support strong clinical leadership across nursing, dementia and mental health services.
• A strong working knowledge of CQC requirements, safeguarding and quality improvement.
• Evidence of improving care quality, leadership capability, occupancy and financial performance across more than one service.
• The confidence to have difficult conversations, make sound decisions and provide calm leadership when a home is under pressure.
• Strong commercial judgement, budget management and the ability to use performance information well.#
• A practical, coaching-led style and the ability to travel regularly across the region.
