Job Description:

Talent Flow Partners is pleased to be working with a respected law firm to recruit a Regional Director for Child Care to join their team in either Manchester or Blackburn. This role offers a fantastic opportunity for a dedicated solicitor aiming to make a significant impact in children’s law.

Overall Purpose of the Role

The Regional Director for Child Care will lead a team of childcare solicitors and support staff, providing strategic direction, overseeing casework, and ensuring legal excellence in childcare law. Responsibilities include managing a diverse caseload, mentoring junior solicitors, representing clients in complex legal matters, and maintaining strong relationships with stakeholders such as local authorities, courts, and clients.

  • Lead and manage the Child Care Department, overseeing all aspects of childcare law practice.
  • Develop and implement strategic plans to grow the department aligning with the firm’s objectives.
  • Act as a key contact for clients, providing legal advice and representation.
  • Ensure compliance with all legal and regulatory standards, maintaining professional ethics.
  • Draft and update regional business plans and participate in budget setting.
  • Oversee financial performance and proactively manage department finances.
  • Handle a complex caseload of childcare matters, including public law cases (care proceedings, emergency protection orders, adoption) and private law (child arrangement orders, guardianship).
  • Advise clients with tailored legal solutions, attend court hearings, and stay updated on childcare law changes.
  • Mentor and supervise legal staff, conducting performance reviews and fostering professional development.
  • Recruit and train new staff, promote knowledge sharing, and lead internal training sessions.
Client & Stakeholder Relationship Management:
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, local authorities, and social services.
  • Ensure high standards of client care and effective communication.
  • Act as a trusted advisor, guiding clients through complex issues with empathy and professionalism.
Compliance & Risk Management:
  • Operate in line with regulatory frameworks, including SRA standards.
  • Manage risks and conduct regular audits of casework.
  • Identify new business opportunities and enhance the department’s profile through networking and thought leadership.

The ideal candidate should:

  • Be a qualified Solicitor in England and Wales with at least 10 years PQE in childcare law.
  • Hold Law Society’s Children Law Accreditation (Child Panel).
  • Have experience working with local authorities on child protection.
  • Possess strong links with childcare-related organizations.
  • Be experienced in managing legal teams and handling public law children cases.
  • Have advocacy experience in court and tribunal settings.
  • Demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills, leadership, and business development acumen.
