Job summary

Derbyshire County Council's Community Safety Team seeks a Regional Delivery Officer to work with the Senior Community Safety Officer (Prevent) and engage with Voluntary and Community Sector, faith groups, and other partners to raise the Prevent profile across the County.

You will advise education settings and district/borough councils on their Prevent duties, provide safeguarding guidance, and deliver regular training to staff and volunteers.

Job description

In the role of Regional Delivery Officer you will work closely with our Senior Community Safety Officer (Prevent) and build effective engagement with our Voluntary and Community Sector Organisations, faith communities and other strategic partners across the County, to raise the profile of Prevent. You will also work closely with education settings and district/borough councils to offer advice and best practice towards their requirements under the Prevent Duty. You will act as a point of contact for the Home Office on Prevent delivery in communities, provide expert advice on safeguarding concerns pertaining to radicalisation and extremism, and develop and deliver regular training sessions to staff and volunteers across multiple sectors. You will be joining a team of experienced community safety professionals working passionately to address crime and disorder in Derbyshire. You will have access to suite of training and have a line manager who is supportive and keen to facilitate your development. The post is fixed until March 31 st, 2027, and we are open to considering secondments. The post may be extended, depending on funding decisions. What will I be doing:

  • Developing and maintaining effective working relationships with the full range of Prevent partners in the Region, including: all Local Authorities across the County, Prevent Police, Schools and Colleges, Faith organisations and the Voluntary, Community Frontline Sector.
  • Engaging with local communities and institutions across the County to encourage a better understanding of Prevent, promote cohesion, and build resilience to radicalising influences to prevent people from being drawn into terrorism.
  • Providing advice and support to professionals, community organisations and faith groups regarding local radicalisation risk, the Prevent Duty and Prevent delivery.
  • Working with partner Local Authorities to share good practice and use the Counter Terrorism Local Profile to develop and update risk assessments and action plans that inform Prevent activities.
  • Developing and deliver training to partners and in community settings across the County where gaps have been identified, including mandatory Prevent training to Derbyshire County Council staff and partners.
  • Contributing to the development of regional projects with Local Authorities across the East Midlands.
  • Keeping up to date with changes to the Prevent program and any guidance issued by the Home Office, Homeland Security Group and the Department for Education.
    Experience or demonstrable record of achieving results through partnership working.
  • Proven knowledge and experience of working with different communities
  • Able to demonstrate a clear understanding of the Prevent Strategy in the context of the wider CONTEST Strategy
  • An in depth understanding of the drivers and context of extremism, radicalisation, and vulnerability
  • Detailed knowledge of the Prevent statutory duties placed upon local authorities, schools, and colleges
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and presentation skills
  • Appreciation of the political sensitivities and impact of this area of work. The ability to handle sensitive topics with diplomacy and tact.
  • A high proportion of your work will be spent delivering in-person interventions across the County, so the ability to travel is essential., Our Community Safety Team is contractually based in Matlock, Derbyshire.
