Job summary

LAB is seeking an experienced Refrigeration Service Engineer to join its growing engineering team in the UK. You will service and maintain commercial refrigeration systems across a range of sites, meeting high standards of safety and customer service.

Qualifications

• Significant hands-on experience within commercial refrigeration service and maintenance.
• NVQ Level 2 qualification in Air Conditioning & Refrigeration.
• Current F-Gas certification and knowledge of EN 378 requirements.
• Excellent refrigeration fault-finding and diagnostic capabilities.
• Strong electrical knowledge, including wiring schematics and control circuits.
• Ability to work independently and own service calls from diagnosis to resolution.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills with customers and colleagues.

Responsibilities

• Servicing and maintaining commercial refrigeration systems, including standalone units, counters, ice machines and walk-in cold rooms.
• Attending reactive service calls and diagnosing faults efficiently.
• Carrying out planned preventative maintenance to maximise equipment reliability.
• Fault finding and diagnosis across refrigeration systems and related equipment.
• Working with refrigeration controls, control panels and electrical circuits.
• Producing clear service reports and recommendations.
• Reading technical drawings, wiring diagrams and manufacturers' information.
• Identifying failures and implementing professional solutions.
• Liaising with the Service and Projects departments and clients for excellent communication.
• Ensuring work meets safety and site-specific requirements.
• Participating in the 24/7 emergency rota (approx. 1-in-10).

LAB is looking for an experienced and highly skilled Refrigeration Service Engineer to join an expanding engineering team. With over 30 years of trading history, my client is a financially secure, well-established and ambitious business delivering high-quality air conditioning, refrigeration and mechanical solutions to clients across the UK. They work with a diverse portfolio of blue-chip customers across the commercial, retail, healthcare, education and hospitality sectors, maintaining and supporting refrigeration and HVAC systems across a wide variety of sites and environments. The Role

• Servicing and maintaining commercial refrigeration systems, including stand-alone refrigerators and freezers, preparation counters, ice machines and walk-in cold rooms.
• Attending reactive service calls and efficiently diagnosing and rectifying faults.
• Carrying out planned preventative maintenance to help maximise equipment reliability and minimise customer downtime.
• Fault finding and diagnosis across refrigeration systems and associated equipment.
• Working confidently with refrigeration controls, control panels and associated electrical circuits.
• Producing clear and accurate service reports and recommendations where required.
• Reading and interpreting technical drawings, wiring diagrams, schematics and manufacturers' technical information.
• Identifying equipment and system failures and implementing effective, professional solutions.
• Working closely with our Service Department, Projects Department and Company Directors to ensure excellent communication and customer service.
• Liaising professionally with clients while maintaining the high standards of service my client is known for.
• Ensuring all work is completed safely, professionally and in accordance with company health & safety procedures and client‑specific site requirements.
• Participating in the company's 24/7 emergency call‑out rota, currently operating on approximately a 1-in-10basis.

About You

• Significant hands‑on experience within commercial refrigeration service and maintenance.
• A minimum NVQ Level 2 qualification in Air Conditioning & Refrigeration.
• Current F‑Gas certification and knowledge of EN 378 requirements.
• Excellent refrigeration fault‑finding and diagnostic capabilities.
• Strong electrical knowledge, including the ability to understand wiring schematics and safely test and diagnose control circuits.
• The confidence and experience to work independently and take ownership of service calls from initial diagnosis through to resolution.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills when dealing with customers, colleagues and other contractors.
• The ability to produce clear and professional service reports.
• A positive, practical and solution‑focused approach to problems.
• Flexibility and a willingness to support the wider business where required.
• A full, valid UK driving licence.

Salary & Package

£45,000 - £50,000 per annum, dependent on experience

• 25 days annual leave, in addition to statutory bank holidays.
