Job summary

Brighton & Hove City Council invites applications for a Referral Officer based at Kingswood Street, Brighton. The 22‑hour per week role has fixed hours and is office based within the MASH, working with health, education and police to safeguard children and families.

Applicants should have NVQ level 2 or equivalent and strong skills in handling public enquiries by phone and email, excellent written and verbal communication, and the ability to work confidentially and under pressure.

Qualifications

• Educated to NVQ level 2 or equivalent, or equivalent experience.
• Experience of dealing with the public through a variety of formats including telephone and email.
• Excellent communication skills both verbal and written, with the ability to deal effectively with customers who have diverse and complex needs in an effective and calm manner.

Responsibilities

• Receive and handle contacts to Front Door For Families.
• Identify enquiries promptly and assess appropriate response.
• Research and collate information from Children’s Services databases for decisions.
• Receive and respond to contacts and referrals about children using procedures.
• Undertake administrative work and ensure information is input on the client database.
