Job summary

Roxel UK is seeking a SHE Officer to join a growing Anglo-French group designing and manufacturing solid propellant rocket motors. You will ensure compliance with UK HSE and environmental permits, promote a zero-harm culture, and coordinate audits, training, and regulatory reporting.

Reporting to the site SHE Manager, the role emphasizes environmental management, safety improvements, and development of SHE policies across UK operations.

Qualifications

• NEBOSH National General Certificate or equivalent required.
• IEMA Certificate in Environmental Management or equivalent required.
• Experience in manufacturing or high-hazard industry preferred.
• Experience with ISO 14001 & ISO 45001 compliance preferred.

Responsibilities

• Promote zero-harm by following Health, Safety and Environmental policies and SWIM.
• Ensure safe methods of working and H&S standards across processes.
• Communicate Health & Safety standards to all team members and stakeholders.
• Develop and implement SHE policies aligned with UK legislation and standards.
• Conduct audits and inspections to identify hazards and ensure compliance.
• Investigate SHE incidents and near-misses with corrective action reports.
• Monitor SHE performance metrics and prepare management reports.
• Coordinate emergency response plans and drills.
• Liaise with regulatory bodies and ensure timely environmental reporting.

Roxel is an Anglo-French Company that designs, develops and manufactures a range of solid propellant rocket motors for use in tactical missiles. Its operations are spread across several sites in the UK and France and it has an annual turnover of about £250M and nearly 1000 staff, with 300 in the UK.

Roxel is undergoing rapid growth, involving the design of new processes and equipment, as well as the management of existing processes to uphold the highest standards of Safety, Health, and Environment (SHE). We are seeking a SHE Officer to join our established team, ensuring compliance with legislative and organizational requirements, with a strong emphasis on environmental standards, while addressing all aspects of health and safety.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Reporting directly to the site SHE Manager, the role includes:

• Promote zero harm objective by operating in accordance with any Health, Safety and Environmental policies and procedures to ensure the safety and wellbeing of staff and visitors and pro-actively promote and support SWIM (STOP, WARN, INFORM, MANAGE)
• Ensure safe methods of working and H&S standards are utilised in all processes targeting zero harm.
• Ensure Health and Safety standards are fully communicated and understood by relevant team members and stakeholders.
• Developing and implementing SHE policies and procedures in line with UK legislation and organisational standards.
• Conducting regular audits and inspections to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance.
• Investigating SHE incidents and near-misses, preparing detailed reports with recommendations for corrective actions.
• Monitoring and analysing SHE performance metrics, preparing reports for management.
• Coordinating emergency response plans and conducting drills to ensure preparedness.
• Liaising with regulatory bodies and ensuring timely submission of required reports and documentation, with a particular focus on environmental reporting.
• Promoting a positive and proactive culture of safety and environmental awareness within Roxel UK.

Experience and Background

Qualifications

• NEBOSH National General Certificate in Occupational Health & Safety or equivalent
• IEMA Certificate in Environmental Management or equivalent.

Experience

• Experience managing health and safety requirements in a manufacturing or high-hazard industry.
• Experience providing safety advice and coaching within a manufacturing environment
• Experience of ISO 14001 & ISO 45001
• Experience in environmental management within a high-hazard industry.
• In-depth knowledge of UK environmental legislation and compliance with environmental permits.
