Job summary

Belfast City Council is seeking two Recycling Operatives to join its Waste Management team at a busy recycling centre in south Belfast. You'll help the public dispose of waste safely, keep the site clean and safe, and perform daily checks and data entry.

Working 37 hours per week on a rotating shift pattern, including weekends, with starting date and PAYE pay at £14.35 per hour. Eligible to work in the UK and employed via Hatched Recruitment Group.

Qualifications

• Two GCSEs (A-C) including English or equivalent with at least 1 year's experience in each area, or at least 2 years' experience in each area.
• Good communication skills, including handling difficult situations calmly.
• Basic record-keeping and health & safety awareness.

Responsibilities

• Advising and helping members of the public to separate and dispose of recyclable and hazardous materials
• Making sure only permitted waste is accepted and stored correctly
• Controlling access and keeping visitors safe on site
• Keeping the site clean, including dealing with spills and leaks
• Recording waste removed from site and entering data on council systems
• Operating compaction and skip-moving equipment
• Carrying out daily health and safety and fire safety checks
• Opening and closing the site, and gritting in icy weather

• Recording waste removed from site and entering data on council systems

What you'll need:

• Either two GCSEs (A-C) including English or equivalent with at least 1 year's experience in each of the areas below, or at least 2 years' experience in each of these areas:
• working in a similar role in a waste management environment
• giving advice and guidance to customers face-to-face every day
• Good communication skills, including handling difficult situations calmly
• Good health and safety awareness
• Basic record-keeping skills
• Flexibility to work a rotating shift pattern, including weekends
