About the Service

We’re excited to offer the opportunity for a Recovery Navigator to join our

Barnsley Recovery Steps Community Team on a 12-month fixed-term contract.

Barnsley Recovery Steps supports people affected by drug and alcohol use, providing person-centred treatment and recovery support that helps individuals improve their health, wellbeing and quality of life.

As a Recovery Navigator, you’ll work directly with individuals throughout their recovery journey, from initial engagement through structured treatment and beyond. You’ll manage your own caseload, develop individual recovery and treatment plans and provide interventions tailored to each person’s needs.

Working as part of an integrated multi-disciplinary and multi-agency team, you’ll help people recognise their strengths, reduce substance-related harm and achieve meaningful and sustainable recovery outcomes.

  • Support individuals to engage with and progress through structured drug and alcohol treatment.
  • Deliver one-to-one and group interventions tailored to individual needs.
  • Provide harm reduction advice and substance misuse-specific support.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues and partner agencies to achieve positive health and wellbeing outcomes.
  • Use a strengths-based approach to help individuals identify their goals, build resilience and achieve sustainable recovery.
  • Encourage people using the service to become actively involved in their treatment, recovery and wider service activities.
To Succeed in This Role, You’ll Need

  • An understanding of therapeutic approaches such as Motivational Interviewing, brief interventions, PSIs, CBT and ITEP.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to build positive relationships and maintain professional boundaries.
  • Good IT and organisational skills, including confidence using Microsoft Office.
  • A driving licence and access to a vehicle would be desirable.

At Waythrough, we believe in providing comprehensive training to ensure that our team members have the skills and knowledge necessary to fulfil their roles. Therefore, tailored training, regular supervision and support will be provided.

So, if you have a passion for helping people make positive changes to their lives and an interest in working within drug and alcohol services, but don’t meet every requirement listed above, we still encourage you to apply.
