Job summary

The Bedford College Group is seeking an Afternoon Receptionist for the Corby Campus to provide a welcoming front-of-house experience and efficient reception services. You will handle visitor management, enquiries, and CRM updates while supporting events and recruitment activities.

With GCSEs in English and Maths and a background in customer service, you will work 1pm–5pm, Monday to Friday, 20 hours per week, in a pro rata part-time arrangement.

Qualifications

• GCSE English and Maths at grades 9-4 / A*-C or equivalent; safeguarding & equality training; First Aid qualification or willingness to obtain.
• Experience in a customer-facing environment, providing advice face-to-face and by telephone.
• Confident written, verbal and telephone communication, accurate record keeping, IT proficiency.
• Willingness to travel between group campuses and work occasional evenings and Saturdays.

Responsibilities

• Deliver a professional front of house service to visitors, students, staff and customers.
• Manage reception area operations, visitor management, IDs, parking requests, calls and queries.
• Respond to telephone and email enquiries and record interactions on CRM.
• Provide admin support including inbox management, stock checks and event support.
• Follow safeguarding, GDPR, equality and diversity policies and maintain professional standards.

About The Role

We are currently seeking a Afternoon Receptionist to join our Customer Contact and Admissions department at The Bedford College Group.

• Front of House & Customer Service - Deliver a professional, welcoming and efficient front of house service to visitors, students, staff and customers, acting as a friendly first point of contact and maintaining high customer service standards.
• Reception & Visitor Management - Take responsibility for the effective running of the reception area, including managing visitors, ID cards, parking requests, telephone enquiries, student queries, post, lost property and opening and closing procedures.
• Customer Enquiries & Record Management - Respond promptly to telephone and email enquiries, accurately record customer interactions on the CRM system, maintain relevant student records and ensure enquiries are directed to the appropriate teams.
• Administration & Events Support - Provide administrative support including managing shared inboxes, checking course welcome packs, completing stock checks and supporting College recruitment activities such as Open Days, Discovery Days and Enrolment.
• Compliance & Professional Responsibilities - Work professionally as part of the wider team while following requirements relating to safeguarding, GDPR, equality, diversity and inclusion, health and safety, training and development, and maintaining the College's professional reputation.

About You

• Qualifications & Training - GCSE English and Maths at grades 9-4/A*-C or equivalent, alongside safeguarding and equality and diversity training, with First Aid qualification or willingness to undertake training.
• Customer Service Experience - Experience of working in a customer-facing environment, providing advice face-to-face and by telephone, handling challenging situations professionally and achieving positive outcomes.
• Communication, IT & Organisation - Confident written, verbal and telephone communication skills, with the ability to maintain accurate records, use email and IT systems, prioritise a busy workload and remain calm during periods of high activity. Knowledge of systems such as REMS, Microsoft Dynamics CRM and ProMonitor is beneficial.
• Teamwork & Professional Standards - Ability to work positively as part of a team, provide a friendly and welcoming service, demonstrate consistently professional behaviour and appearance, and work in line with College policies, procedures and values.
• Safeguarding, Flexibility & Development - Commitment to safeguarding, equality and diversity, appropriate professional boundaries and health and safety, alongside a willingness to continually develop knowledge and skills, work flexibly including occasional evenings and Saturdays, and travel independently between Group campuses.
