Job Opportunity: Real Time Systems Field Engineer

Base Location: Thatcham, Reading, Slough or Oxford

Salary: £52,285 - £60,730 depending on skills and experience + car/cash allowance and a range of other benefits to support your family, finances, and wellbeing.

Working Pattern: Permanent | Full Time | Flexible working options available

We are looking for a Real Time Systems Field Engineer to join our team!

As a Real Time Systems Field Engineer, you will be responsible for the day-to-day maintenance and fault rectification of SCADA & Teleprotection equipment deployed at SSEN substations, hilltop radio sites, and communication rooms.

Responsibilities:
  • Perform daily maintenance and fault rectification of RTS equipment
  • Manage Local & Wide Area Networks
  • Support installation, setup, and commissioning of SCADA systems
  • Assist the Operational Technology & RTS Design & Delivery teams with supervision and installation of new projects and technology
  • Participate in an emergency standby support rota
Qualifications and Skills:
  • Good understanding of systems such as Remote Terminal Units (RTUs), including Schneider, ABB, and ZIF
  • Proven experience deploying IP-connected devices like UHF scanning radios, TSAT satellite communications, fibre optic and copper cable networks, teleprotection systems, automation schemes, and LV DC wiring systems
  • Completed an apprenticeship or equivalent training in telecommunications, IT, electrical, or electronic engineering is preferred
  • Excellent communication skills and a proactive, pragmatic approach to problem-solving
  • Open to innovation, collaborative, and capable of managing workload independently and within a team

The role is field-based, requiring regular travel to substations, sites, supplier locations, and other SSE offices. A full current driving license is essential.
