Yorkshire Ambulance Service NHS Trust is recruiting Ambulance Support Workers to respond to emergency calls with a paramedic, helping deliver lifesaving care and patient transport across North, South, East and West Yorkshire.
Successful applicants will undertake a Level 3 Ambulance Support Worker Apprenticeship, with progression opportunities to become HCPC-registered paramedics. A demanding but rewarding role requiring flexibility across days, nights, weekends and bank holidays.
This vacancy is for a number of positions throughout Yorkshire, covering North, South, East and West Yorkshire.
An Ambulance Support Worker (ASW) responds to emergency calls alongside a paramedic, helping them to provide patients with potentially life-saving care and, where needed, getting patients to hospital. They attend every kind of accident and emergency, sometimes covering considerable distances, using expert emergency driving skills to get to the scene with the greatest speed possible.
The role of ASW can provide an excellent opportunity to further develop a career in healthcare and within Yorkshire Ambulance Service. You will be required to undertake aLevel 3 Ambulance Support Worker Apprenticeship. This is a nationally recognised qualification that demonstrates your operational competency in the care field. Following successful completion, it will enable you to benefit from career progression within the Trust, including development opportunities to become aHCPC-registered paramedic.

As part of the role, you will be required to demonstrate and maintain aconsistently high standard of emergency drivingin accordance with UK national standards. You will also be required to successfully complete theLevel 3 Emergency Ambulance Response Driving qualification, developing the specialist driving skills needed to safely respond to emergency incidents and transport patients.

As this is an emergency response driving role, it is essential that you hold a full UK driving licence withno more than 3 penalty points. You will also be required to hold theC1 categoryon your driving licence.
Applications will be accepted from candidates who have not yet obtained their full C1 category. However, youmust have obtained your C1 category before you can be booked onto an induction course.
If you are interested in this role and have not yet obtained yourC1 provisional entitlement, we strongly recommend that you apply for this as soon as possible. Doing so early will help to avoid delays and save time during the recruitment process. Further information regarding the C1 requirement and process will be provided at the interview stage.
At the time of application, youmust hold and be able to provide official certificate evidence of 3 GCSEs at grade 4/C or above, includingEnglish and Mathematics, plusone other GCSE, or equivalentFunctional Skills Level 2 qualifications.

Interviews will take place from January 2027, with successful candidates expected to commence induction and training from April 2027 onwards.
