Job summary

Shetland Islands Council is seeking a Supervisory Assistant for Urafirth Primary School in Heylor to supervise pupils during break times, assist in the dining hall and playground, and support overall pupil safety and conduct in line with local authority procedures.

This permanent part-time post is 5.0 hours per week, 39 weeks per year plus pro rata holiday; PVG scheme membership is required. The rate includes Distant Islands Allowance; relocation is not offered.

Job description

Supervisory Assistant - Urafirth Primary School - SIC08969

Responsible, under the direction of the head of establishment or such other officer as may be designated by the authority, individually or as a member of a team, for securing the safety, welfare and good conduct of pupils during the break period in accordance with the practices and procedures of the local authority. Duties will include supervision of the pupils in the dining hall, playground areas and school premises and may include ancillary associated duties (for example cleaning up spillages, ensuring tables are clean, etc) to ensure the maintenance of good order and discipline.

Urafirth Primary School is a non-denominational school located in Heylor. It provides nursery to P7 education for children from Eshaness, Hillswick, Urafirth, Heylor and Hamar. The structure of the school is 1 nursery class and 2 multi-composite primary classes. There are currently a total of 20 primary and 8 ELC pupils on the roll. The school is managed by Jasmin Tulloch, who is a teaching Head Teacher. The current staffing complement is 3 teachers (FTE) assisted by support staff as required to meet school demands.   • Rate of pay shown in the advert is inclusive of Distant Islands Allowance of £1.5523 per hour
  • Permanent Part Time post for 5.0 Hours per Week, 39 weeks per year plus 6.24 weeks (pro rata) paid holiday to be taken during school holidays.
  • Preferred candidates will be required to join the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update prior to a formal offer of employment being made
