Job summary

Baltasound Junior High School in Unst, Shetland is seeking a Learning Support Worker to assist in education and management of children with additional support needs. The role involves working within the school or in mainstream classes, following individual education programmes and liaising with therapists and teachers.

The post is permanent and part-time (23.63 hours per week, 39 weeks per year plus pro-rata holiday).

Qualifications

  • Experience supporting learners with additional support needs is desirable.

  • PVG Scheme clearance or willingness to obtain.

Learning Support Worker - Baltasound Junior High School - SIC08964

To assist in the management and education of children and young people with additional support needs (ASN).

A Learning Support Worker may be asked to work with any child or group of children, with severe and complex additional support needs, either within the department and/or within some mainstream classes. They may be asked to work alongside and with specific guidance from any teacher within a School. Work around an individual child may be based on an individualised education programme. This programme is followed by all staff working with the child / young person and may involve working with professionals and therapists e.g. Speech Therapist, Occupational Therapist, Physiotherapist, Child Psychologist, etc.

Baltasound Junior High School is a non-denominational school located in Unst. It provides nursery, primary and secondary education up to S4 for children from the island of Unst. The structure of the school is 1 nursery, 3 composite primary classes and S1-4 classes. There is currently a total of 95 pupils on the roll. The school is managed by a Head Teacher and 1 Depute Head Teacher. The current staffing complement is 15 teachers assisted by support staff as required to meet school demands.   • Rate of pay shown in the advert is inclusive of Distant Islands Allowance of £1.5523 per hour
  • Permanent Part Time post for 23.63 Hours per Week, 39 weeks per yearplus 6.24 weeks (pro rata) paid holiday to be taken during school holidays.
