Job summary

Randstad CPE in Thirsk and across North Yorkshire is seeking a Quantity Surveyor to join our expanding commercial team. We welcome applicants from graduate to senior level, with ambition to lead major projects and mentor junior staff.

You will play a key role in the financial and contractual management of varied construction projects, supporting takeoffs, valuations, procurement, and cash flow management from inception to final accounts.

Qualifications

• Degree or HND in Quantity Surveying or related discipline.
• Strong numerical and analytical abilities with negotiation skills.
• Excellent communication and collaborative problem-solving.
• Full UK driving license required.

Responsibilities

• Support commercial management of live contracts.
• Assist with takeoff quantities, cost estimations, and tendering processes.
• Learn and assist with monthly valuations, variation assessments, and subcontractor payments.
• Build strong working relationships with site teams, subcontractors, and clients.
• Take full commercial responsibility for assigned projects from award through final accounts.
• Prepare detailed cost control reports, forecasts, and cash flow projections.
• Manage procurement, subcontractor accounts, variations, and contractual claims.
• Provide commercial advice to project directors and mentor junior team members.

The Role

We are expanding our commercial team and looking for a talented

Quantity Surveyor to join us.

Graduate looking to kickstart your commercial career, an

Intermediate QS ready for your next step, or a seasoned

Senior Quantity Surveyor capable of leading major projects and mentoring junior staff.

In this role, you will play a key part in the financial and contractual management of varied construction projects across the region, ensuring commercial success from inception to final accounts.

Key Responsibilities

Support the commercial management of live construction contracts.

Assist with takeoff quantities, cost estimations, and tendering processes.

Learn and assist with monthly valuations, variation assessments, and subcontractor payments.

Build strong working relationships with site teams, subcontractors, and clients.

For Mid to Senior Level:

Take full commercial responsibility for assigned projects from award through to final account settlement.

Prepare detailed project cost control reports, forecasts, and cash flow projections.

Manage procurement, subcontractor accounts, variations, and contractual claims.

Provide commercial advice to project directors and mentor junior team members.

What We Are Looking For

Degree or HND in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, or a related discipline (or equivalent experience).

Strong numerical, analytical, and negotiation skills.

Excellent communication skills with a practical, collaborative approach to problem-solving.

Full UK driving license (required due to regional project locations).

For Senior applicants: Proven track record of managing construction projects autonomously, with strong contractual knowledge (NEC/JCT).
