Job summary

Tor View School within Aspris Education and Children’s Services is seeking dedicated staff to support pupils with autism, trauma-related needs and learning difficulties in Devon. With a trauma-informed, relational approach, you will build trusted relationships, promote emotional wellbeing and help pupils access an appropriate curriculum in a nurturing environment.

What will the role involve?Work collaboratively to uphold and embed the school's vision of raising aspirations, fulfilling potential, and ensuring every young person feels valued, understood and empowered to succeed.Champion a trauma-informed and relational approach across the school, creating an environment that is safe, emotionally secure and nurturing, where young people can develop resilience, self-awareness and confidence.Demonstrate a strong understanding of Trauma Informed Schools (TIS) principles, recognising the impact of adverse experiences on learning, behaviour and emotional wellbeing, and adapting support accordingly.Act as an advocate for the school's policies and values, particularly those relating to safeguarding, behaviour and inclusion, using a supportive and restorative approach to promote positive emotional regulation and engagement in learning.Build trusted relationships with young people, providing consistent emotional support and acting as a key adult who promotes belonging, safety and wellbeing.Ensure that Aspris policies and procedures are followed, particularly regarding safeguarding and the accurate, timely recording of interventions, incidents and outcomes.Promote independent learning, self-esteem, emotional literacy and self-regulation through targeted support and intervention.Demonstrate a commitment to ongoing professional development, including mandatory training, Trauma Informed Schools practice, SEND and mental health awareness, ensuring support strategies remain evidence-informed and responsive to individual needs.Support young people in understanding and managing their additional needs, enabling them to participate fully in education and develop effective coping and self-help strategies.Provide emotional guidance during periods of crisis, using de-escalation, restorative and relational approaches whilst prioritising preventative and early intervention strategies informed by knowledge of each young person's experiences and needs.Deliver therapeutic, wellbeing and pastoral interventions as directed by the DSL, evaluating their impact and contributing to positive outcomes for young people.Assist young people in identifying, understanding and managing their emotions, developing emotional literacy and resilience to support both academic and personal success.Safeguard and promote the welfare of students, acting as a source of advice and support for young people, staff and families regarding safety, wellbeing and safeguarding concerns.Work collaboratively with colleagues to promote a consistent trauma-informed culture, providing guidance on behaviour support, emotional regulation strategies and effective relational practice.Assist in implementing and reviewing individual pupil plans, pastoral support plans, behaviour support plans and risk assessments to ensure provision meets identified needs.Contribute to the design and delivery of staff CPD sessions focused on behaviour for learning, trauma-informed practice, SEND, emotional wellbeing and strategies linked to Aspris modalities.Family Support and External Liaison:Develop and maintain positive, trusting partnerships with parents, carers and families, recognising the vital role they play in supporting their child's development, wellbeing and educational progress.Act as a key point of contact for families, providing guidance, reassurance and practical support, particularly during times of transition, challenge or heightened need.Promote a strong home-school partnership by facilitating open, honest and solution-focused communication that enables families to feel listened to, valued and involved in decision-making.Work collaboratively with parents and carers to identify barriers to learning, attendance, emotional wellbeing and engagement, developing supportive strategies that can be implemented consistently across home and school environments.Lead and participate in family meetings where appropriate, ensuring families have opportunities to contribute to pastoral planning, review progress and celebrate successes.Support families in accessing appropriate services and interventions, signposting to external agencies and community resources where additional support may be beneficial.Liaise effectively with external professionals and multi-agency partners, including social care, health services, educational psychologists, CAMHS and local authority teams, ensuring a coordinated approach to meeting the needs of young people and their families.Advocate for the needs of young people and their families, ensuring their voices are heard and that support plans reflect their individual strengths, experiences and aspirations.Promote family engagement through workshops, events and targeted support opportunities that strengthen relationships, build parental confidence and enhance outcomes for young people.Ensure all interactions with families reflect the school's trauma-informed ethos, recognising that families may also have experienced adversity and therefore require a compassionate, strengths-based and non-judgemental approach.Aspris is committed to
