Job description

Main responsibilities

Radiology systems management Provide operational management and specialist oversight of PACS, RIS, IEP and associated Radiology digital systems. Ensure systems are available, reliable, resilient and fit for purpose to support safe and effective patient care. Monitor system performance, availability and usage, identifying and resolving issues that may affect clinical or operational delivery. Maintain appropriate system configuration, user access controls, role-based permissions and audit arrangements. Support the safe and accurate storage, retrieval, transfer and availability of imaging data and reports. Ensure Radiology systems support effective workflows across referral, imaging, reporting, image sharing and clinical review processes. Oversee data quality activity, including the management of patient mismatches, missing studies, incorrect demographics and other system-related data issues.

User support and technical guidance

Act as a senior point of contact for Radiology system queries, incidents and service requests. Provide specialist advice and guidance to clinical, operational and administrative users on the safe and effective use of Radiology systems. Troubleshoot and resolve system, workflow and access issues, escalating to Digital Services, suppliers or other specialist teams where required. Support users during periods of system change, upgrade or disruption, ensuring clear communication and practical guidance. Develop and maintain user guides, standard operating procedures, training materials and system documentation. Promote consistent and effective system use across Radiology and associated clinical areas.

Service continuity, resilience and risk management

Support the development, testing and maintenance of business continuity and disaster recovery arrangements for Radiology systems. Assist with the implementation of contingency workflows during system downtime, service interruption or major incident response. Identify, assess and manage risks relating to Radiology systems, escalating significant issues through appropriate governance routes. Contribute to incident investigation, root cause analysis and lessons learned activity where Radiology systems are involved. Ensure system risks, dependencies and mitigations are clearly documented and reviewed. Support compliance with Trust risk management, clinical safety, information governance and cyber security requirements.

System upgrades, change and project delivery

Support the planning, testing and implementation of Radiology system upgrades, enhancements and new functionality. Provide specialist input into technical configuration, workflow design, testing, validation and implementation planning. Work with Digital Services, suppliers and clinical users to ensure system changes are delivered safely and effectively. Contribute to project documentation, including implementation plans, risk and issue logs, highlight reports, testing records and lessons learned. Support service improvement and digital transformation initiatives across Radiology. Assist with the development of business cases, option appraisals and service improvement proposals where required.

Supplier and stakeholder management

Act as a key liaison between Radiology, Digital Services, system suppliers and external partners. Support the management of supplier performance, including monitoring service issues, escalation routes, response times and resolution activity. Maintain effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders to support system performance and service development. Represent Radiology systems interests in relevant operational, project, governance and supplier meetings. Communicate complex technical information clearly and appropriately to clinical and non-technical audiences. Support regional or network-level imaging initiatives where they impact Trust Radiology systems.

Information governance, data quality and audit

Ensure Radiology systems are managed in line with Trust policies for confidentiality, information governance, data protection and cyber security. Support audit activity relating to system access, data quality, system usage, reporting, image availability and compliance. Produce reports and analysis to support service management, operational decision-making and governance requirements. Promote high standards of data quality and safe information handling across Radiology systems. Support the completion and maintenance of relevant documentation, including DPIAs, system records, operating procedures and governance evidence.

Training and service improvement

Support the design, delivery and maintenance of training for Radiology system users. Identify training needs arising from incidents, system changes, new starters, upgrades or changes in workflow. Support the development of super users and local system champions where appropriate. Promote continuous improvement by reviewing user feedback, incident trends, system performance and workflow issues. Recommend and implement improvements to enhance system usability, service resilience and patient safety. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of Radiology systems, imaging informatics, NHS digital requirements and emerging technologies.

People and team responsibilities

Provide day-to-day guidance, support and supervision to Radiology systems staff where applicable. Support workload prioritisation, service cover and resilience across the Radiology systems function. Contribute to appraisal, development and training arrangements for staff where line management responsibility applies. Promote a positive, professional and improvement-focused culture within the team. Work autonomously within agreed policies and procedures, escalating significant issues to the Radiology Systems Consultant or relevant senior manager.

General responsibilities

Work in accordance with Trust policies, procedures and values at all times. Maintain confidentiality and ensure all patient, staff and business information is handled appropriately. Comply with statutory and mandatory training requirements. Support equality, diversity and inclusion in all aspects of the role. Contribute to a safe working environment by following health and safety, infection prevention and risk management procedures. Undertake any other duties appropriate to the role and band as required by the Radiology Systems Consultant or senior management team.
