Responsibilities

  • Prioritise health problems in complex, urgent or emergency situations
  • Effective management of long-term conditions
  • Support patients to adopt health promotion and self-care
  • Timely processing of administration including referrals and repeat prescriptions
  • Review medications following NICE/local guidelines and care pathways
  • Maintain accurate clinical records in line with policy
  • Work collaboratively, sharing workload fairly
  • Adhere to best practice through guidelines and audits
  • Support anticipatory care plans
  • Contribute to quality improvement initiatives
  • Accept delegated responsibility for QOF areas
  • Attend and contribute to practice meetings
  • Contribute to development and governance and training
  • Know and uphold safeguarding duties and policies
  • Ensure compliance with appraisal process
  • Prepare and complete revalidation to remain fit to practice
  • Commit to CPD and continuous improvement across the team

Job description

The following are the core responsibilities of the Salaried GP in delivering health services.

  • a. The delivery of highly effective medical care to the entitled population
  • b. The provision of services commensurate with the primary care contract
  • c. To clinically examine and assess patient needs from a physiological and psychological perspective and plan clinical care accordingly referring patients to other services/agencies in a timely manner, utilising Practice and any other local guidelines
  • d. Generic prescribing adhering to local and national guidance
  • e. Prioritise health problems and intervene appropriately to assist the patient in complex, urgent or emergency situations, including initiation of effective emergency care
  • f. Effective management of long-term conditions
  • g. To support patients to adopt health promotion strategies that promote healthy lifestyles and apply principles of self-care
  • h. Processing of administration in a timely manner, including referrals, repeat prescription requests and other associated administrative tasks
  • i. Review medications following the appropriate policies, NICE/local clinical guidelines and local care pathways
  • j. Maintain accurate clinical records in conjunction with good practice, policy and guidance
  • k. Work collaboratively, accepting an equal share of the practice workload
  • l. Adhere to best practice recommended through clinical guidelines and the audit process
  • m. Support the delivery of anticipatory care plans
  • n. Contribute to the successful implementation of continuous improvement and quality initiatives within the practice
  • o. Accept delegated responsibility for a specific area (or areas) or the QOF
  • p. Attend and contribute effectively to practice meetings as required
  • q. Contribute effective to the development and maintenance of the practice including clinical governance and training
  • r. Be aware of your duties and responsibilities regarding current legislation and adhere to practice policies and procedures on Safeguarding Adults and Safeguarding Children
  • s. Ensure compliance with the appraisal process
  • t. Prepare and complete the revalidation process to remain fit to practice
  • u. Commit to self-learning and instil an ethos of continuing professional development across the practice team
  • v. Review and always adhere to practice protocols and policies
  • w. Encourage collaborative working, liaising with all staff regularly, always promoting a culture of continuous improvement
  • x. To be an integral part of the general practice team as well as supporting the wider network and multi-disciplinary team
  • y. There may be, on occasion, a requirement to carry out other tasks, this will be dependent upon factors such as workload and staffing levels
