Job summary

Remit Training offers a Vehicle Bodycare Centre Paint Technician Apprenticeship. You will assist qualified panel technicians with body repairs, learn to repair and replace damaged panels, and prepare vehicles for repair and painting using hand and power tools.

The programme is delivered at the Remit Automotive Academy in Derby, with IMI qualifications and a dedicated Development Coach. Costs are covered by the employer, including hotel accommodation during block release and ongoing support for

Qualifications

• GCSEs 9–4 in Maths and English (or equivalent).
• No automotive qualifications required, but strong interest in the motor industry.
• Ability to follow safety procedures and wear PPE.
• Willingness to learn and develop through an apprenticeship.

Job description

Assist qualified Panel Technicians with vehicle body repairs.

Learn how to repair and replace damaged vehicle panels.

Remove, refit, and align body panels and components.

Prepare vehicles for repair and painting.

Use hand tools, power tools, and specialist workshop equipment safely.

Follow manufacturer repair methods and workshop procedures.

Carry out basic welding and metal repair techniques under supervision.

Maintain a clean, safe, and organised working environment.

Adhere to all health and safety regulations.

Work towards achieving the qualifications associated with the apprenticeship programme.

A certain amount of administration and customer interaction is also required:

• Keeping a record of work carried out and time taken
• Liaising with the customer or insurance company
• Providing quotations and estimations

As part of the service a Bodyshop offers, you may also carry out valeting, to ensure the vehicles look as good as new.

• Wash down the outside of the car to remove dirt and mud
• Polish the windows, wheels, door handles, and mirrors

Qualifications Required

To be a successful Paint technician the is no previous automotive qualifications needed but the ideal candidate will have GCSE’s 9 to 4 (A-C) or equivalent in Maths and English

Personal Qualities

You must have a strong passion for the industry and in your own personal development as Vehicle Bodycare Centre will help support you, with further training opportunities available to be a successful Paint technician

Skills Required

Please be aware that you would be using specialist equipment like spray guns along with various masks and breathing apparatus, it is important that Paint technicians always use personal protective equipment (PPE) and follow safety procedures for using hazardous material

Training to be Provided

This is a Vehicle Damage Panel Apprenticeship programme, delivered by Remit Group.

Awarding Body: Institute of the Motor Industry (IMI)

Training is delivered in the workplace and on block release at the Remit Automotive Academy in Derby. This means you will be required to stay in a hotel for 12 separate weeks (Mon - Fri) over the duration of the programme, which equals 4 weeks per year. All associated costs for training are met by the employer and there will be no cost to you.

You will also be assigned a dedicated Development Coach who will visit you every 4-6 weeks either in the workplace or remotely via Microsoft Teams, giving 1-2-1 advice and guidance to help you achieve the following IMI qualifications:

• Vehicle Damage Panel Technician Level 3
