Job summary

Shaw Healthcare is seeking a Chef at Mill River Lodge in Horsham to deliver high‑quality, home‑cooked meals for residents. You will liaise with the Home Manager and staff to meet dietary needs and create a welcoming dining experience.

The role involves managing catering tasks, maintaining HACCP hygiene standards and supporting a positive, resident‑focused team in a caring environment.

Responsibilities

• Preparing, cooking and serving meals for residents and others as required, in a timely manner.
• Providing a varied diet, catering for the cultural preferences of those who use our services.
• Catering for celebrations and other events in our Home.
• Ordering supplies within the catering budget and company policy guidelines, using approved suppliers in the absence of the senior cook
• Maintaining accurate catering records in accordance with HACCP.
• Participating in inspections by Environmental Health and/or care regulators and Local Authorities.
• Maintaining a high standard of hygiene within the kitchen by adhering to HACCP and COSHH guidelines.
• Assisting in the maintenance of a safe and healthy working environment by ensuring adherence to Health & Safety and Welfare.
• Ability to manage the Catering Team

Shift Times: Flexible on 4 week Rota, shifts either 07:00–15:00 or 08:00–16:00 - includes alternative weekends.

Shaw healthcare is looking for a Chef who is ready to make a positive impact at Mill River Lodge, situated in the picturesque West Sussex town of Horsham. The superb purpose built care home provides 70 spacious en-suite bedrooms for elderly service users offering residential dementia care, nursing care and respite care.

Job Responsibilities

You will liaise with our Home Manager, Nutritional Therapist and staff to ensure high‑quality fresh, home‑cooked food is provided every day. You will also establish a rapport with our residents and their families in order to satisfy their dietary needs. This will include, but not limited to:
