Job summary

Hunter Selection Limited is recruiting a Trainee Maintenance Engineer to join our engineering team in Frome. You’ll work on site to support essential utilities, gain hands-on experience and develop toward more senior roles.

You’ll receive extensive on-the-job training, with a supportive environment, clear progression paths and access to a range of technical disciplines and technologies. This role offers long-term career stability in a growing company.

Qualifications

  • NVQ Level 3 or a recognised Engineering Apprenticeship.
  • Strong commitment to health and safety.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings/diagrams.
  • Good problem-solving and a proactive approach.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work with colleagues across the business.
  • Strong organisation and time management.
  • Willingness to learn, develop and take on new challenges.

Responsibilities

  • Support day-to-day operation and maintenance of critical utility systems across site.
  • Carry out planned preventative maintenance activities.
  • Conduct routine inspections and monitoring checks.
  • Assist with fault finding, breakdown response and repairs.
  • Support water treatment, chemical dosing and effluent processes.
  • Operate and monitor plant equipment in line with site procedures.
  • Help ensure utility services meet production demands.
  • Complete maintenance records, inspections and compliance documentation.
  • Work with engineering and production teams to improve site performance.
  • Maintain high safety, compliance and housekeeping standards.

The Role

As a Utilities Engineer, you'll play a vital role in ensuring the smooth operation of key site services that keep production running safely and efficiently.

  • Steam generation and distribution
  • Water treatment systems
  • HVAC and temperature control systems
  • Compressed air systems
  • Cooling towers
  • Air handling units
  • Building Management Systems (BMS)
  • Effluent treatment and environmental systems
  • Working alongside experienced engineers and technical specialists, you'll be involved in maintenance, fault finding, inspections, monitoring activities and continuous improvement projects.
Key Responsibilities

You’ll ideally have:
