Job summary

Brackenberry Ltd is partnering with a Local Authority in Thurrock to appoint an NLGV Driver Operative on a 6.5‑month contract, with a strong possibility of extension at the client's discretion. The role covers street cleansing across the borough, operating non-LGV vehicles and mechanical sweepers, and safe handling and disposal of waste, alone or in a team.

A Category B licence and willingness to work outdoors in all weather conditions are essential, with flexible hours and basic in‑cab system

Qualifications

• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision or collaboratively within multi-disciplinary teams
• Basic digital literacy to use handheld or in-cab systems for task recording
• Mobile within the Borough with a flexible approach to working hours, assignments, unsociable hours, and bank holidays
• Clear and effective communication skills when engaging with team members, managers, and the public

Responsibilities

• Ensure safe operation of allocated vehicles, plant, and equipment, including daily vehicle checks, loading/unloading, and reporting defects in a timely manner
• Perform scheduled and ad-hoc street cleansing activities such as litter picking, manual/mechanical street sweeping, leaf and weed removal, emptying litter/dog waste bins, and fly-tipping/graffiti removal
• Safe collection and disposal of hazardous waste (e.g., sharp items, needles) and dead animals
• Operate hand tools and power equipment (e.g., blowers, strimmers) safely following relevant training/certification
• Adhere to health and safety policies, Safe Systems of Work, and Council corporate procedures
• Complete work efficiently to a Grade A standard as defined by the Code of Practice on Litter and Refuse (COPLAR) 2019

Job description

We are working closely alongside a Local Authority in Thurrock to assist with the appointment of a NLGV Driver Operative, on a 6.5-month contract, highly likely to be extended at clients discretion.

Rate of Pay: £14.66 - £19.14 per hour

Summary:

The NLGV Driver Operative role involves carrying out street cleansing operations across the borough to maintain high standards of cleanliness, operating non-LGV vehicles and mechanical sweepers, and ensuring the safe handling and disposal of waste. Working individually or as part of a team, you will contribute directly to community clean-up efforts and local environmental maintenance.
