North Edinburgh Childcare in Edinburgh is seeking an Out of School Care & Education Practitioner. The role supports primary school aged children, planning and delivering enriching activities while ensuring safety and wellbeing.

Flexible hours include 22 hours/week with holiday time, plus additional hours and a 16-hour week option; 6 hours on Fridays with year-round opportunities. Applicants should hold a recognised childcare qualification and be eligible to work in the UK.

Qualifications

  • Experience working with primary school aged children.
  • Recognised childcare qualification (HNC/SCQF Level 7 or equivalent).
  • Knowledge of national practice guidance (Realising the Ambition, Curriculum for Excellence).
  • Experience in an early learning and/or childcare setting.
  • Commitment to high-quality practice, inclusion and children’s rights.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a busy, supportive team.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, deliver and evaluate high-quality experiences that support children’s learning, wellbeing and enjoyment.
  • Contribute to the day-to-day running of the service and support leadership when required.
  • Create safe, stimulating spaces and respond to each child’s needs.
  • Supervise groups of children during outings and daily activities.
  • Work with colleagues to ensure children's voices are heard.

OUT OF SCHOOL CHILDCARE & EDUCATION PRACTITIONER

Post Available Include:-

22 hours/week – Monday to Friday – up to full time hours during holiday time

16 hours/week – Monday to Thursday – additional hours available during holidays

6 hours/week – Friday Only – additional hours available all year round

Salary up to £15,474.73/annum based on 22 hours per week depending on qualification

We are looking for someone with experience working with primary school aged children who can bring energy, creativity and professionalism to our out of school care team. You will work collaboratively with colleagues to plan, deliver and evaluate high‑quality experiences that support children’s learning, wellbeing and enjoyment.

As a Practitioner, you will play an important role in the day-to-day running of our services. You will help shape a positive environment by recognizing and responding to children’s individual needs, supporting their development, and ensuring their voices are heard. You will also contribute to the leadership of the team by guiding and overseeing the work of others when required.

We are seeking someone who can create safe, stimulating and engaging spaces where children can explore, play and grow. You will be confident taking responsibility for groups of children both within the service and on outings, ensuring their safety and wellbeing at all times.

Applicants must have or show a commitment to learning:-

A recognised childcare qualification:- HNC in Childhood Practice; SVQ Social Services (Children & Young People) SCQF Level 7; or equivalent

Knowledge of national practice guidance (Realising the Ambition, Curriculum for Excellence)

Experience working in an early learning and/or childcare setting

A commitment to high‑quality practice, inclusion and children’s rights

The ability to work collaboratively within a busy, supportive team

All applicants must be eligible to:-

Register at Practitioner Level with the Scottish Social Services Council.

Become a member of the Protection of Vulnerable Groups Scheme.

Work in the UK and have the relevant documents to prove this.
