PRACTITIONER / LEAD SUPPORT WORKER

Craigiebarn Owls Out of School Care Club
Hours: Approximately 18 hours per week, with opportunities for additional hours during school holidays
Salary: £13.86 per hour (Due to current funding, an additional temporary supplement of £0.74 per hour is paid, bringing the current hourly rate to £14.60 per hour. The £0.74 supplement is funded until 31 March 2027 and relates only to the enhanced rate of pay, not the duration of the post. The supplement may continue beyond this date; however, this cannot currently be guaranteed.)

Craigiebarn Owls Out of School Care Club is looking for an experienced, motivated and enthusiastic Practitioner / Lead Support Worker to join our team.

This is an ideal opportunity for someone with experience in childcare or school-aged childcare who is confident taking additional responsibility within a busy out of school care environment.

Alongside providing high-quality care and play opportunities for children, you will help lead day-to-day practice, support other members of the team and contribute to the ongoing development and quality of our service.

The Role

As Practitioner / Lead Support Worker, you will:

  • Provide high-quality, child-centred care and play opportunities
  • Take a lead role within sessions and support the effective running of the service
  • Support and guide Support Workers in their day-to-day practice
  • Lead and contribute to activity and play planning based on children's interests and choices
  • Promote children's wellbeing, inclusion, independence and participation
  • Help ensure a safe, nurturing, welcoming and stimulating environment
  • Build strong and professional relationships with children and families
  • Support children with additional or individual needs
  • Promote good safeguarding and child protection practice
  • Support the implementation of service policies and proceduresContribute to observations, evaluations, quality assurance and service improvement
  • Support staff to maintain high standards of practice
  • Take appropriate responsibility for the service when required
  • Work closely with the Manager, Supervisor and Board of Committee Members to support the continued development of the club
Who We’re Looking For

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has previous experience working with children in a childcare, playwork or similar setting
  • Is confident taking responsibility and providing guidance to other staff
  • Has a strong understanding of child-centred and play-based practice
  • Is approachable, organised and able to use their own initiative
  • Can communicate confidently and professionally with children, families, staff and other professionals
  • Understands safeguarding, children's wellbeing and inclusive practice
  • Is enthusiastic about improving children's experiences and contributing to service development
  • Can remain calm and make appropriate decisions in a busy environment

A relevant childcare/playwork qualification at SCQF Level 7 or equivalent is preferred. Consideration may also be given to applicants who are currently working towards an appropriate qualification, depending on experience.

The successful applicant will be required to undertake a PVG Scheme check and must hold, or be willing and eligible to obtain, the appropriate SSSC registration.
