Job summary

Midlothian Council is seeking an Early Years Practitioner for Gorebridge Primary School. The post is fixed term until 29 June 2027, with a 20.5-hour week pattern across 39 weeks, primarily Wednesday and Thursday 08:00-16:15, and Friday 08:00-13:00.

Salary starts at the first point on the scale with PVG/Disclosure requirements in place. The post involves safeguarding-regulated work with children; PVG scheme membership is required or updated prior to start, costs borne by you.

Qualifications

• Must hold a practitioner level qualification, HNC Childhood Practice at SCQF Level 7; or SVQ Social Services (Children & Young people) at SCQF 7 or equivalents meeting SSSC registration.
• SVQ 3 Child Care and Education or SVQ 3 Early Years Care and Education acceptable.
• HNC Childcare and Education or HNC Working with Children in Early Years or HNC Early Education and Childcare also acceptable.
• Qualifications previously recognised for SNNEB/NNEB registration may be acceptable.
• An up-to-date First Aid certificate is required; this can be obtained within 6 months of starting.

Based on 20.5 hours over 39 weeks per year, the minimum actual salary for this position is £15,986.01 per annum.

Requirements

This post is considered Regulated Work with Children under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act, 2007. Therefore, it is an offence to apply if you are barred from working with children.

Successful candidates will require PVG Scheme membership for Regulated Work with Children. You will be required to join the Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme Update check prior to commencing employment with Midlothian Council, the cost of which will be met by you.
