Are you an RGN, RMN or RNLD Nurse looking for predictable weekday working while continuing to use your clinical knowledge?
We are recruiting registered Nurses to work as Nurse Assessors in Newport on the Isle of Wight, completing functional health assessments for Personal Independence Payment (PIP) and Work Capability Assessment (WCA) services.
This role is also known as a Functional Assessor, Disability Assessor, Clinical Assessor, PIP Assessor or WCA Assessor. You will complete structured assessments, review supporting evidence and produce clear, evidence‑based reports for the Department for Work and Pensions. This is not a hands‑on nursing role.
For PIP assessments, you will explore how a health condition or disability affects daily living and mobility. For WCA assessments, you will consider how a person’s health affects their functional capability for work or work‑related activity.
Assessments may take place by telephone, online video appointment or face‑to‑face at the local assessment centre. You will review medical evidence, gather accurate information through structured questioning, apply your clinical knowledge and professional judgement, and produce clear, concise and evidence‑based reports.
This is a report‑writing role as much as an assessment role. You will spend a significant part of the working day gathering detailed information, using IT systems and producing structured written reports.
You will not provide hands‑on care, prescribe or deliver treatment, make medical diagnoses, provide medical advice or make the final decision on benefit entitlement.
This is a permanent hybrid role based between home and the Newport assessment centre at PO30 2HX.
The normal working pattern is Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm, with no nights, weekends or rotating shifts. Full‑time roles are available, and part‑time applications may also be considered. The vacancy is not fully remote.
You will complete a comprehensive, full‑time training programme before undertaking assessments independently.
Part‑time applicants must be available for the initial full‑time training period before moving to their agreed part‑time hours.
The salary is £45,000–£48,000, depending on the assessment service.
