Job summary

Mencap in Barnsley is hiring Support Workers to provide vital personal care and compassionate support to people with learning disabilities. The role covers a range of duties from assisting daily living and budgeting to helping individuals participate in community activities, using digital records to track progress.

You will join two local services with flexible shifts; car drivers are preferred to access community activities. We offer paid holidays, benefits and a welcoming inclusive workplace.

Qualifications

• Experience working with people with learning disabilities is desirable.

Responsibilities

Summary

What does a Support Worker do?

As a Support Worker you will be expected to provide an outstanding level of support that will enormously contribute to the people we support, living a more comfortable, dignified, liberated and happy life.

• Personal care – We provide prompt’s,
• Supporting people to live independently – budget management, paying bills, house work, organising appointments and cooking delicious healthy meals.
• Excellent communication skills/relationship building – supporting the person to understand the world around them and promoting positive relationships.
• Community & Social Inclusion- Supporting individuals to access and participate in their local community and Social events to promote life skills and individuality.
• Using digital records to chart peoples progress on a daily basis, so everyone involved in their support can see how well they are doing and any important changes.

We are currently looking for Support workers for established services in the centre of Barnsley – Shifts and Hours to be discussed further at interview.

We provide support to Men and Women with Mild learning disabilities in the centre of Barnsley across 2 locations that are close to each other, 2 of the people we support have their own car’s to access the community, this mean it is essential that applicant are car drivers.
