About the Role

We are looking for an experienced

Health and Safety Adviser to join a busy Health and Safety Team supporting operations across a large organisation.

This is a varied advisory role covering social housing, construction and estate management activities. You will provide practical health and safety advice, undertake inspections and audits, support incident investigations, develop action plans, deliver training and work with managers, contractors and other stakeholders to promote a positive and compliant health and safety culture.

The successful candidate will be confident working independently, managing multiple workstreams and providing clear, practical advice based on current legislation and best practice.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver health and safety objectives and projects in line with the Health and Safety Team's annual plan.
  • Provide practical advice and recommendations on health and safety matters within your area of competence.
  • Monitor compliance with health and safety arrangements, processes, legislation and best practice.
  • Carry out inspections and audits of work areas, activities, plant and equipment.
  • Undertake inspections and audits of contractors working on behalf of the organisation.
  • Support compliance with the

Construction (Design and Management) Regulations (CDM).

  • Prepare action plans following audits and inspections and monitor progress through to completion.
  • Attend client and contractor progress meetings where required.
  • Develop and deliver engaging health and safety training and information.
  • Communicate complex health and safety information clearly to colleagues, managers and contractors.
  • Build positive working relationships with stakeholders and influence a strong health and safety culture.
  • Maintain accurate health and safety records and contribute to performance reporting and analysis.
  • Provide technical advice to managers on safe working practices and working conditions.
  • Support accident and incident investigations, including complex and potentially RIDDOR-related investigations.
  • Advise on the development, management and control of risk assessments and safe systems of work.
  • Support the Procurement Team in assessing contractors against required health and safety standards.
  • Undertake individual workplace risk assessments, including areas such as display screen equipment, hearing and vision.
  • Support health surveillance activities and safe returns to work following absence or injury.
  • Keep up to date with changes to legislation, regulatory requirements and industry best practice.
  • Contribute to the development and improvement of health and safety systems, policies, plans and strategies.
  • Maintain accurate and timely administrative records and reports.
  • Contribute to keeping health and safety information and guidance up to date.
  • Deputise for the Head of Health and Safety when required and within your level of competence.
  • Maintain confidentiality in relation to health and safety and organisational matters.

NEBOSH General Certificate as a minimum.

  • Willingness to work towards and obtain a

NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent.

  • Proven track record as an accomplished Health and Safety professional.
  • Experience of carrying out health and safety audits and maintaining audit action plans.
  • Ability to coordinate multiple workstreams and deliver projects from start to finish.
  • Strong knowledge of health and safety legislation and best practice.
  • Ability to manage your own workload and work with minimal supervision.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise work and meet deadlines.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to engage, influence and work collaboratively with a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Good literacy and numeracy skills for report writing and data analysis.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.
  • Commitment to continuing professional development.
  • Full UK driving licence and access to a car for work purposes.

NEBOSH Construction Certificate.

  • Experience working within

social housing or construction.

  • Experience delivering engaging health and safety training.
  • Membership of a relevant professional health and safety body.
  • Experience with advanced workstation assessments.
  • Experience with COSHH.
  • Knowledge of health and safety requirements relating to housing, construction and estate management.

The role will involve a combination of office-based work, meetings, inspections, audits and visits to operational areas and contractor sites.

You should be comfortable working across different environments, including social housing, construction and estate management settings, and be prepared to travel as required using your own vehicle for work purposes.
