What skills and experience we're looking for

Are you practical, reliable, and take pride in creating a safe and welcoming environment?

We are looking for a friendly and proactive Caretaker to join our team, to work across both Anton Infant and Anton Junior schools. You will play a vital role in ensuring our pupils, staff, and visitors enjoy a well-maintained and secure school site.

We are going to need you to do the following:
  • Undertake the daily opening of the school and ensure the premises are safe, secure, and ready for use. Maintain oversight of site security and fulfil key holder responsibilities.
  • Support, maintain and promote an excellent health and safety culture, which means spotting hazards before they become the star attraction of the playground.
  • Overseeing the work of our third-party contract cleaners and ensuring high standards of cleanliness across the school.
  • Liaising with contractors on site and overseeing planned maintenance schedules.
  • Working closely with staff to provide practical support across the school and to complete all health and safety risk assessments.
  • Carrying out Legionella testing and maintaining accurate records.
  • Ensuring the site complies with health and safety requirements and Hampshire County Council policies.
  • Keeping the COSHH register up to date.
  • Managing fire safety checks and procedures.
  • Monitoring and maintaining heating, lighting and alarm systems.
  • Undertaking general routine maintenance, minor repairs, improvements and regular site inspections around the school site, whilst maintaining accurate records.
  • Overseeing waste management and recycling.
  • Monitoring and arranging routine minibus maintenance checks and keeping our wheels turning.
  • Ensuring cleaning supplies are well stocked, ordered and readily available, whilst managing the premises budget responsibly.
  • Support the smooth running of school events and activities when required.

Previous experience in a similar role, or a good understanding of building maintenance, compliance, and site management, would be an advantage, but is not essential. We welcome applications from candidates with transferable skills and a willingness to learn.
