Job summary

Angram Bank Primary School is seeking a reliable caretaker to maintain a safe, secure and welcoming environment. You will perform routine premises checks, monitor health and safety compliance and liaise with contractors for on-site works to keep the site well maintained.

The role requires practical maintenance and DIY skills, good organisation, and the ability to prioritise urgent health, safety and premises issues while keeping accurate records.

Qualifications

• Good knowledge of health and safety requirements and statutory compliance within a school or similar setting.
• Experience of routine premises checks, including fire safety, water hygiene, emergency lighting and general site safety checks.
• Understanding safeguarding and maintaining a secure school site.
• Practical maintenance and DIY skills for minor repairs and identifying when specialist contractors are needed.
• Experience monitoring premises, reporting defects and ensuring actions follow through.
• Maintain accurate compliance records, logs and documentation.
• Liaising with contractors and overseeing work on site.
• Good organisational skills and ability to prioritise urgent health, safety and premises issues.
• Proactive in identifying risks to keep the school site clean, safe and well maintained.
• Willingness to undertake relevant training and keep knowledge up to date.
• Previous experience in school/education setting desirable, especially premises compliance and statutory testing.

• Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively with staff, pupils, contractors and visitors.

Previous experience of working within a school or education setting would be desirable, particularly experience of premises compliance and statutory testing.
