Job summary

Anton Infant and Anton Junior schools are seeking a practical, reliable Caretaker to join our team. You will help keep our site safe, secure, clean and well maintained, ensuring pupils, staff and visitors have a welcoming environment.

This role covers daily opening, site security, overseeing contractors, basic maintenance and repairs, health and safety checks, waste management, and supporting school events.

Qualifications

• Previous experience in a similar role is advantageous.
• Good understanding of building maintenance, compliance, and site management.
• Willingness to learn and adapt to school environment.

Responsibilities

• Open the school daily and ensure premises are safe, secure and ready for use.
• Oversee site security and act as key holder where required.
• Supervise third-party cleaners to maintain high standards of cleanliness across the site.
• Liaise with contractors on site and oversee planned maintenance schedules.
• Assist with health and safety risk assessments across the school.
• Carry out Legionella testing and maintain accurate records.
• Ensure compliance with health and safety requirements and policies.
• Keep the COSHH register up to date and manage fire safety checks.
• Monitor heating, lighting and alarm systems, and carry out routine maintenance.
• Support events and activities as required.

Weare looking for a friendly and proactive Caretaker to join our team, to workacross both Anton Infant and Anton Junior schools. You will play a vital rolein ensuring our pupils, staff, and visitors enjoy a well-maintained and secureschool site.

Weare going to need you to do the following:

• Undertake the daily opening of the school and ensure the premises are safe, secure, and ready for use. Maintain oversight of site security and fulfil key holder responsibilities.
• Support, maintain and promote an excellenthealth and safety culture, which means spotting hazards before they become thestar attraction of the playground.
• Overseeing the work of our third-partycontract cleaners and ensuring high standards of cleanliness across the school.
• Liaising with contractors on site and overseeingplanned maintenance schedules.
• Working closely with staff to providepractical support across the school and to complete all health and safety riskassessments.
• Carrying out Legionella testing andmaintaining accurate records.
• Ensuring the site complies with health andsafety requirements and Hampshire County Council policies.
• Keeping the COSHH register up to date.
• Managing fire safety checks and procedures.
• Monitoring and maintaining heating, lightingand alarm systems.
• Undertaking general routine maintenance, minorrepairs, improvements and regular site inspections around the school site,whilst maintaining accurate records.
• Overseeing waste management and recycling.
• Monitoring and arranging routine minibusmaintenance checks and keeping our wheels turning.
• Ensuring cleaning supplies are well stocked,ordered and readily available, whilst managing the premises budget responsibly.
• Support the smooth running of school eventsand activities when required.

Previous experience in a similar role, or a goodunderstanding of building maintenance, compliance, and site management, wouldbe an advantage, but is not essential. We welcome applications from candidateswith transferable skills and a willingness to learn.
