Job summary

Morson Edge is seeking a skilled maintenance technician to support electrical and electronic fault finding on train systems. You will perform planned and unplanned maintenance, diagnose faults on power and control systems, and assist with testing, commissioning and fault resolution across multiple depots.

You will also contribute to safety, training, and data collection. A strong knowledge of 3-phase and DC systems is required.

Responsibilities

  • Ensures work is performed safely and in line with Health & Safety at Work Act (1974), Electricity at Work Regulations (1989), Railway Group Standards, and ALSTOM procedures.
  • Undertake exam-based maintenance.
  • Carry out planned and unplanned tasks.
  • Provide technical support to depot teams with fault finding expertise and train repair assistance.
  • Provide diagnostic and repairs on electronics and electrical systems.
  • Have extensive knowledge of 3-phase, single-phase and DC power systems and control systems.
  • Record faults in detail, report faults, gather data and communicate verbally.
  • Carry out fault finding and investigate intermittent faults on vehicles in depot or in service.
  • Perform testing and re-commissioning on vehicles and trains per written procedures.
  • Assist with component change outs and reporting failures for central systems support and reliability growth teams.
  • Assist with skills development within depots.
  • Provide on-train fault diagnosis and rectification for units in service.
  • Investigate technical problems as instructed by project support engineering.
  • Gather required data downloads on critical performance systems.
  • Participate in test runs to aid fault finding and resolve repeat failures.
  • Functionally test train-borne systems with minimal supervision using computer-based diagnostics.
  • Review and rectify test specifications and documentation for functional tests and feedback issues with VMI's, Fleet Checks, Modifications or technical documents.
  • Assist in validating maintenance and repair documentation, special checks, modifications and experiments.
  • Assist in validating Maintenance Schedule amendments and other technical instructions.
  • Assist in validating locally produced technical instructions.
  • Provide technical support for special checks and experiments.
  • Liaise with systems support engineers and specialists to gather information to resolve train, procedure, material or component problems.
  • Carry out duties in accordance with Train Care Centre quality and safety procedures.
  • Assist in testing and repair of equipment identified as faulty and removed from trains.
  • Assist the Warranty Engineer in their responsibilities.
  • Where necessary drive company vehicle to outstations/depots or failed units.
  • Travel to other 730 WMT Project Depots and Outstations to assist varying workload.
  • Assist in APSYS and 5S activities/housekeeping.
